Okay Folks, some of you already know.

They have released 5.10.7 into the wild. We also know that in some circumstances many of us are running various older stable version for testing purposes...

So, If you have multiple machines and are ready to try it on one of them it is recommended.

It does contain the "feature" with projects running the newer server software... IF the Quorum is 2 (adn complete) and you are the third workunit it will autocancel.

Weird, I tried Installing the v5.10.7 earlier on a few of my PC's and it was a no go, the installer or my System kept telling me that it wasn't a valid x32 something and would abort the install, so I settled for v5.10.0

But I just downloaded the v5.10.7 again and it looked like it would install ... Will try later when my Wu's are okay to stop ...

PS: Got it installed okay this time, seems to be okay so far, not any different than the v5.10.0 as far as I can see but probably different in the way it works ...

Poorboy

There was a final recomplile. I know that many here are running BOINC Cores that are in Alfa Test to see what is happening. For teh most part it is not required to change, but be aware of of things moving ahead.

I am happy that the "redownload/reinstall" worked!

I Installed the v5.10.7 across my Computers today even though I've had 4 of them just suddenly show a Blue Screen and go Idle according to the Process Manager, 1 of them Twice in fact. But I figured 3 of them were the v5.10.0 and 1 the v5.10.7 so I'd give the v5.10.7 a shot for a few days anyway since it seemed more reliable.

If nothing else the v5.10.7 is the first BOINC Client to give realistic Benchmarks for my Duo Core & Quad Core CPU's, at least the first time it Benchmarked them anyway ... :)

For those of you that are not BOINC Alpha Testers.

There has been a problem uncovered that affects BOINC just shutting down (BOINC 5.10.7)...

Yes I know that many of of here run as many OS's and BOINC Cores for compatibility issues. If you have 5.10.7 running be cautious.

When did they release 5.10.8? Haven't had any problems with 5.10.7 but have loaded .8

Running 5.10.7 (haven't seen the .8 mentioned above yet, unless you mean "5.8"); so far haven't noticed any major differences between 5.8 & 5.10 except window sizing, and it seems to stick more to my Pers.Pref. of switch-every-X-hours/minutes.

5.10.8 was release at the begining of the week - and quickly pulled due to some serious problems with systems losing the Desktop & BOINC shutting down. This problem showed up for some people with 5.10.7. However, it looked like just another Windows crash, so it wasn't reported at first.

[Edit] 5.10.8 was released last week for testing - 5.10.7 was the version released for the general public to use and then pulled.[/Edit]

Boinc 5.10.8 is available on the download Boinc page - click "All versions" on the download page to see the download link. Remember that 5.10.8 is a test version and may have more problems than the 5.10.7 version. I haven't updated my Boinc to either, I'm still using the 5.8.16 version until I'm sure they've got the bugs out.

I am happy to hear that you have 5.10.10 running fine. There are several horror stories for the Windows version.

I have 5.10.7 running on this machine with no issues (Knock on Wood)

I've only seen the problem once in over 3 weeks of running 5.10.7 version. It happened shortly after changing to a picture on the Desktop instead of a single colour.

This MAY be a co-incidence, but this system is usually very stable.

I also have had 5.10.7 running smoothy with no issues, running on Server 2003 it crunches happily all day.
