The apparent duplications for Enhanced are due to possible differences in the way Linux/X86_64 and Sparc/Solaris systems report their platform information. The platform has to match exactly for the app to be delivered to those systems.

Thanks, I've tried this as displayed in the browseer, and with the tabs as well. I get the following errors:

I can't see the reason for the duplication in this list.

Could you please post the first few lines, until these two appear, out of the messages tab after a restarting of BOINC. Guess your doing something wrong, because this app_info.xml (stored as textfile and renamed to .xml) is in use successfully.
You did download all the necessary files and stored them in your projects/setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu_beta folder before starting BOINC, didn't you ?

I'm sorry but I can't atm because my Athlon is currently not working, I'm posting this from my old PII 233.

I have also read that AP may soon be moving to SETI main.

The hard part will be getting the url references into the correct section. Then the downloads should happen automatically depending on the boinc core client.

I have tried testing this, I had some problems using BOINC 5.10.45

22-Jul-2008 07:40:09 [SETI@home Beta Test] [error] Application file astropulse_4.35_COPYRIGHT missing signature
22-Jul-2008 07:40:09 [SETI@home Beta Test] [error] BOINC cannot accept this file
22-Jul-2008 07:40:09 [SETI@home Beta Test] [error] Checksum or signature error for astropulse_4.35_COPYRIGHT
22-Jul-2008 07:41:03 [SETI@home Beta Test] [file_xfer_debug] Couldn't start download of astropulse_4.34_windows_intelx86.exe
22-Jul-2008 07:41:03 [SETI@home Beta Test] [file_xfer_debug] URL (null): invalid URL

Also the JPG version is the previous one, (I know the JPG file is the same every time, but it is a minor error).

Also the version reported in BOINC Manager when I did manage to manually download the files is shown as 4.34

Finally, I don't have graphics, [Show Graphics] button is greyed out, but 4.35 app IS RUNNING according to Windows Task Manager.

...
I have tried testing this, I had some problems using BOINC 5.10.45

22-Jul-2008 07:40:09 [SETI@home Beta Test] [error] Application file astropulse_4.35_COPYRIGHT missing signature
22-Jul-2008 07:40:09 [SETI@home Beta Test] [error] BOINC cannot accept this file
22-Jul-2008 07:40:09 [SETI@home Beta Test] [error] Checksum or signature error for astropulse_4.35_COPYRIGHT
...

That seems to indicate if the URLs are added to the <file_info> sections the signatures also need to be added. I'm assuming that was just a sample and the complaint about missing signature happens on all files.

So far as I know (and by reference to the working app_info files distributed with optimised applications), the only files you absolutely need to reference are the executables:

astropulse_4.35_windows_intelx86.exe
libfftw3f-3-1-1a_upx.dll
ap_graphics_4.35_windows_intelx86.exe

It would be good practice (and legally required under the GPL, if you intend to pass the files on to anyone else) to download the copyright and other ancillary files, but it isn't essential for the app to actually work.

And if you don't reference them in the app_info, then you don't have to worry about all these signatures and urls.

Keep this Wiki page handy when practising. (NB no reference to the <url> construct).

If we're running BOINC v6.2.14 or thereabouts service installs under Windows, will we have to think about sandbox user permissions as described for the Mac version?

There is now an option in http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/prefs.php?subset=project

Run only the selected applications
SETI@home Enhanced: no
Astropulse: yes

If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? yes

This is also in place on SETI main.

Keith -- You are right about the option being available both in SETI main and SETI Beta, but I seem to have a problem (probably my stupidity) ...

I have two different types of machines running but I cannot dictate which machine(s) get only "enhanced WUs", and which get only "AP WUs". When I try to select the button for the small files/slow machines, it changes all my machines to the slow type. Conversely, if I try to set a fast machine to "AP only", all my machines follow suit.

Like I said above - I'm doing something wrong, I guess ...

Is this not because the option is to your seti account and therefore affects all host on that account.

Where as in BOINC the options are to that hosts individually and not your seti account. Could be wrong again.
