Yes, that right. Finally Astropulse for MacOS X. Let me know if it works. I don't exactly have a huge array of machine to test it on. That's where you come in. I'm onboard for the test. You will also get a good test of WU pausing as I task switch every 60 minutes and I have 10 projects to rotate through. I will look into unmothballing the iMac G4 I have never had crunching on SETI to test out the PPC build. That machine has not been turned on in over 4 months. I use it to run some very old games (OS9 and older games in the classic emulator as well as some PPC only games that crash on my newer machines)

That would be good, I really don't have a way to personally test on anything before 10.5 on PPC and 10.6 on i686. In theory they should work down to 10.4, but sometimes unexpected APIs show up when the wrong libraries are linked in.

I'm going to try to bring up the G4 in the morning. I rewired the desk moving a lot of stuff around and never reconnected some stuff 3 months ago so this may take a bit but it should be running sometime tuesday. It is a iMac G4 17" screen 800MHZ G4 700 something MB of ram. (not to bad for a 2001 machine) OSX 10.4.11? (Whatever the last version of the 10.4.x series was). I can probably leave it on for about a week with no problem.

Thanks. If it's going to fail it will do so almost immediately, so if it runs for a few hours, that would be enough for me to know. So if you don't want to finish the work unit you don't have to.

Missing the power cable should be up within a few hours

OK PPC machine is online and running the first thing grabbed was 4 MB v7s. Broke my own rule and aborted them and now am pulling down a AP v6.01. Needed BOINC 6.6.36 according to the OS chart on BOINC. I haven't used something that old in years. I forgot how slow the download link is just after a shutdown. Almost done downloading 15 min later. errors out within just 1 second after download is done.

Crash logs and System console is reporting is as a full blown application crash lots and lots of error messages. I would say something expected by AP 6.01 is missing on 10.4.11. I sent Eric a PM with the system console log. I am looking for the App crash log and see if that has any more stuff in it.

At least the i686-apple-darwin version seems to run. After ca. 8 hours i've seen 10.5% done.

Yeah, it looks like that compile of the powerpc app needs 10.5. I'll probably need to put together a 10.4 machine to get a 10.4 compatible compile.

Yeah, it looks like that compile of the powerpc app needs 10.5. I'll probably need to put together a 10.4 machine to get a 10.4 compatible compile. I have a machine that in theory could run 10.4.11(Intel) but it has been updated to a 10.6.x version. I no longer use this machine so it has no monitor for me to use. If no one else steps up I could do it over the weekend by shutting down my main machine and using that monitor but it would not be easy. Let me know because it will involve me shutting down and maybe needing to do a drive reformat and other things like that. At minimum I may get away with creating a non destructive repartition of the boot drive in the best case to create the new boot partition.

I found both a PPC and an Intel Mac running 10.4. I should be able to have 6.02 for MacOS 10.4 ready by Friday. Maybe earlier if I trust it's getting the right answers before then.

If no one else steps up I could do it over the weekend by shutting down my main machine and using that monitor but it would not be easy. Don't bother. Now that I've found 10.4 machines, I'll be able to check my versions. Wish me luck. ____________

So what compiler did Charlie ultimately use, Clang or GCC?
| ID: 42042 · | |
|
These are GCC and compiled by me. Apparently Josh had done most of the work already for MacOS compilation. The problem was that many of the libraries were compiled for 10.5 or 10.6.

I don't think we'll be going to CLANG until we start using 10.6 as a minimum OS version.

I have the MB v7 v6.92 running just fine on my PPC Mac running 10.4.11. One has been turned in and validated with a Windows CPU app MB v7 v6.97 so it's doing something right. I was a vlar WU and got a 30 count within 5 minutes of running but validated. The second WU is running just fine 2 1/2 hours in looks line it will run for 150 hours before finishing.

The MB v7 on my 10.4.x system turned in a second valid WU. Looks like V7 works on older ppc systems. Now the question any luck with the newer PPC build of AP v6.x ? My intel Machine is almost 30% done with no visible problems.

I've been able to build an i686 version that works on 10.4.8 (and possibly earlier 10.4).

Finished my two Astropulse work units after ca. 76 hours of runtime, which seems quite long.
