FINAL NOTE ON DECORUM:
Please don't clog up your fellow cruncher's bandwidth by full-quoting! Quote only what you need to reference.
Now that that's all out of the way, I'd like two make an announcement: I want to congratulate WordWeaver on what must be the lowest rating for a SETI forum post (currently -34). I think we should assist him in his record-breaking by asking everyone who can to -1 his last post. Let's see how low it can go!

who have the right here to close a Thread, only for Info
For the record, I didn't close the thread as in "kill", but closed as in "relocated". Tom was right about who can "close" a thread. The inital author can edit the thread "status" (actually it's just the name of the thread that gets changed, nothing else) by adding the words "Closed", "Cerrado", or whatever.
Since I didn't begin the political thread, I can't close that one. Second, this thread (now in its sixth reincarnation) is the longest thread in the forum's history. I would have been really stupid to kill it.

I was suprised the question was even asked. We've done this many times before with the Political and Religious threads. If you hadn't spawned Poli_6 I would have. |

N.Korea Could Test Long-Range Missile Any Time - U.S.
Depending on the flight path of the missile this could be a great time for a "real" test of the US anti-missile program.

Pre-Election:
The USA has a flu vaccine shortage! Bad planning! This is all the fault of George W. Bush (as is ANYTHING that doesn't go as expected). News stories show long lines at clinics for people waiting for the precious vaccine. We're all going to die of the flu!
Post-Election:
There is a surplus of flu vaccine. Did GWB save the day? No, the high risk people sacrificed and didn't flock to get shots (so who were those people in the long lines).
When you're on top, you tend to get all the blame, but none of the credit (from your politcal opponents). Yet, if anyone had suggested back in October that the flu vaccine shortage was not the crisis the media was hyping it to be, they would have been slammed for blindly supporting the President. Ah, politics, I love it.

From the Music Thread:
NeoAmsterdam to Dogbytes
Dogbytes: I'm in New York, where for reasons unexplained our King George III thinks he can tax internet sales. So even though it's $25.74 for an unacceptably low 128KB/s AAC version of The Wall, I get screwed with the New York Tariff On Anything That Isn't From New York.
I didn't vote for him, so I guess I can claim "No taxation without representation".
NA Check the facts
President Bush Happily signed the bill in December!.
"At a White House signing ceremony on December 3, 2004, President George W. Bush signed into law an extension of Rep. Cox's Internet Tax Moratorium. “Today, the great news that we share with all American consumers is that you will be fully protected from taxation no matter how you choose to access the Internet - dial-up, cable modem, DSL, satellite, wireless, or some pathway yet to be invented, said Rep. Cox.

The "reason" behind the tax was so the NYS could collect on online cigarette sales. It ended up screwing over all online sales. I should point out, however, that since geography is for the most part irrelevant as far as the internet is concerned (The only identifier is an IP address, not a country or state), and because there is no authority of any sort online, Pataki pulled a very fast and stupid one by attempting to bring the internet into his jurisdiction.
I haven't read the links, but I'm willing to bet that Bush "signed into law" a bill that will make sure that the IRS gets its share in addition to NYS...
I'll get to them when I can.

Slightly OT, but it needs to be noted that there was an 9.0 at 00:58:50 (UTC) on Sunday, December 26, 2004 off the west coast of Northern Sumatra. Relief efforts are listed <a>here[/url]
Having experienced a 5.3 quake on the 12th floor of an apartment in Chile, I felt that this was something that had to be, at least, mentioned.
