Other leisure activities: mountain climbing (see recent climbs at top of page), rock climbing (5.11C/D on a good day); see a rock-climbing Diary. at Ironworks and Mission Cliffs, mountain biking (primarily in Berkeley's beautiful Tilden Park, sometimes on Mt. Tamalpais). I have completed all of the Atlantic Monthly Puzzlers, for the last several years. In ink. OK, almost all of them. I used to do a lot of work in computer music; don't seem to have time for it anymore. I'm into astronomy and SETI. I'm the director of the BOINC and SETI@home projects. Here's a historical artifact of SETI@home from 1998. This project is connected with the SERENDIP project, a SETI project at UC Berkeley that uses the radio telescope at Arecibo. I do some work for SERENDIP too. In my previous life as Assistant Professor of Computer Science at UC Berkeley, I wrote a number of technical papers. My name appears in the Acknowledgements of a paper in the International Journal of Osteoarchaeology
