setiathome_6.08_windows_intelx86__cuda.exe (1,412 KB)

Haven't done an official download yet, so I don't know for certain that nothing else has changed - but I think it's highly unlikely that anything has.

I've managed to download all the files, amended richard's app_info from the last version.
I've reset the project, re-downloaded all my work, and am computing with 6.08 on CPU fallback.
I've had to amend my cc_config.xml down to one CPU, to stop 3 tasks running at once.

Ok, so I just wanted to make sure I have this right. I should download the file Richard recently posted, edit my app info file, add the exe, and reset the project.

I have a task about 35% right now and once that's finished I'll give it a try if I've got it right. Also I've had a problem with validate errors thru uploading and I'm wondering if I should report the tasks I have before I do?
EDIT:
got also the files, will wait for the finish of the actual result (is at 50%) and test the new app 6.08 tomorrow

It's sounds to me like people are getting this thru Boinc, so is an app info file even needed? Sorry for the confusion, I've just never had great success with a reset of the project the few times I've done it.

If you are doing Cuda work without needing an app_info, just reseting the project will download the latest app and all your work, make sure you report any completed work first!

If your GPU is too slow or just Compute level 1 and you just get 6.03, then try the following:

Report any completed work, set no new tasks, reset the project, shut Boinc down (without reporting!),
Drop all your files into the beta folder, with the modified app_info, make sure you change the entry for 607 to 608, and the 606 entry to 607, leave the 603 entry alone.
At this point you can change your <duration_correction_factor> for beta in your client_state.xml file back down to about 0.25 (gets reset to 1)
Now restart Boinc, do Update, and your work will get re-sent.

If you screw up and just get 6.03, you can try again, as long as you don't report in the meantime.

Edit: quite a bit.

v6.08 testing report:

I've been struggling with a preview copy of v6.08, and my never-ending WU from last night - AR=0.0094674045199333.

I can confirm that working offline (standalone), that VLAR task ran to completion - both as a separate run from start to finish, and picking up from the 35.695% checkpoint file it stalled at last time with v6.07

So VLAR is do-able at long last, but we're not out of the woods yet. The full stand-alone run took four times the time of the mid-range ARs I've been used to, and the screen felt a lot more laggy than it does when BOINC is running normally. The next step will be to run some VLARs live from the project, and check that they validate OK - Raistmer has been doing similar offline testing on a similar WU, and his WU validated using the Lunatics test tools, so I don't have too many worries on that score.

But Berkeley/NVidia have still got to find and fix whatever it is that's causing this extreme slow running at VLAR. Four times the time*, but only an extra 15% FLOPs and hence credit, is going to cause yet more howls of protest if it went to Main like this.

*provisional offline testing

just started my second result with MB 6.08 CUDA
<true_angle_range>0.37860722557718</true_angle_range>

It starts without any problem and is now at 6.5% with 1 min CPU time

This resultid=5262378 from yesterday runs without any problem and is validated
shown as 6.07, but used 6.08 app
WU true angle range is : 13.632549

stopping boinc and starting it new at 22% of the result also works.

But I had to wait round 20 sec after boinc shutdown (no boinc processes in Process explorer)
before the GPU was down to idle for GPU Core Clock and GPU Memory Clock (Shown in GPU-Z 0.3.1).

So eventually boinc should wait 30 seconds before starting the next CUDA result?

Just completed first MB 6.08 on this host 8300GS also Validated against 6.03 unable to give wall run time as PC rebooted for some reason while I was out.

No start time available. But with stoppage time from post at 10:06:14 approx 4 hours 27 minutes.

I've also downloaded a number of 6.03 WU are we out of 6.08

No doute a Microsoft update.

Have taken note of second WU start time. The times are roughly the same as 6.07.
