Message 40210 - Posted: 24 Feb 2011, 14:13:55 UTC

Hello community!

Since 22 Feb 2011 23:45:05 UTC SETI@home BETA have the new SETI@home v7 (V6.90) app online.

http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/apps.php

Someone have already the new app DLed and crunch?

Experiences?

Thanks

BTW.
The S@h (BETA) crew don't need this kind of thread?
Or they look 'behind the curtain' how the app work?

BTW.
The new app is now named SETI@home v7. This will be the final name?
Or it will be SETI@home Enhanced V7.x, or something like this?

ETA on support for OSX? I would be willing to run it if you supported it on my platform.

Development for the Mac platform ceased here more than two years ago. If there is to be an OS X version of S@h v7, I expect it will have to come from third parties, similarly to the way AstroPulse apps were built by user Dotsch.

Then why is Eric saying he will be working on a OS X version?

Using Kubuntu 10.10 amd64 (maverick) and setiathome_v7 6.90 x86_64 linux version there seems to be some problem with results reported not containing any signal info.
Check http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/workunit.php?wuid=3246912 or
http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/workunit.php?wuid=3246907 are validated inconclusive.

Thanks for confirming that others have the same problem on linux.

ps: Revision 1018 should fix this, so only a rebuild would be necessary.

Similar problems occur if the Windows build is made with GCC 4.5.1 rather than the GCC 3.4.2 which is the default for DevCpp. It's basically a matter of new optimizations in the newer compilers.

There haven't been any changes in the SaH_v7 application source code since rev 998. At a minimum the angle reductions for fpu_ChirpData and sse1_ChirpData_ak have to be fixed, optimization is effectively cancelling all chirping by zeroing all the angles in my GCC 4.5.1 builds. Maybe Eric will prefer to just comment out the testing of those as a temporary workaround, but I'll try to find a workable fix (those angle reductions are code I wrote a few years ago).

Do we have to do something on the client side for it to d/l the v7 app & start using it, or should it do that on its own at some point?
