Message 43264 - Posted: 10 Jul 2012, 8:38:24 UTC - in response to Message 43263.

Having Reset clearly different from a Detach/Remove followed by Attach/Add is useful in several ways, and I hope you won't stir up changes without considering side effects.
                                                                  Joe

So what exactly "reset" button do for anonymous platform? (and what it does for stock) ?

Basically it flushes what can be replaced from the project. Just tasks for anonymous platform, but everything in the project directory for stock. It's basically meant as a fix for something being corrupted client side.

That's close to detach/reattach for stock, but it doesn't remove the project details so the next work request is seen as a normal request and the usual logic applies including "Resend lost work" if that's enabled by the project. As assigned work for stock always includes URLs of everything needed to process it, the client then downloads whatever it doesn't have.

For anonymous platform the user has taken responsibility for telling the BOINC servers what work can be processed. The Reset hasn't changed that so again the work request is handled as normal.
                                                                  Joe

In particular, 'reset project' discards previous application version information for stock applications, so new and resent work is matched with the latest version installed on the server. That's extremely useful when debugging rapidly changing stock applications, as we found during the original pre-launch phase of Astropulse.

The server has no S@H cuda WUs available, and has not had for about 24 hours; w/o the WUs it will not send the app.

Are you talking about the Beta server? There's no S@Hv7 cuda app available here.

Hi everyone,

Also seeing a lot of units (all of them) getting validated with less than 1 credit per task, even when the wingman is using the same platform. Any ETA on when the correct credits will be granted?

Thanks!

Wow,
got 6.35 Credits for my AstroPulse v6 v6.04 (cuda_opencl_100)
Runtime: 80,408.43 sec
CPUtime: 62,122.93 sec
OK its a slow GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS (256MB) driver: 285.62

Oh, and I'm my own wingman
same WU on my other client with much faster GPU and CPU.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 (1024MB) driver: 290.53
Runtime: 12,285.48 sec
CPUtime: 1,040.43 sec

Yeah, and the credits still keep dropping. I've been dealing with a visiting scientist the last few days, and that's kept me from getting enough time to debug fully. I'll be able to implement a new scheduler and assimilator tomorrow. When I do, I'll grant full credit for all of these items and then reset the database fields that control these things.

Will my poor memoryless :-) HD4850 be able to get some 6.04 you think?

Found the problem, boinc has downloaded the file with a size of 8K.
Don't know, why it wasn't deleted after the wrong download.
The folder was empty before I start again to this project.
Did copy the file to the folder from one of my other computers, so we'll see if it works now.

Whoop! There it is! Just validated a unit today with 702 credits. Now that's what I'm talking about! Really anxious about getting the correct credit for all the other WUs too!

Cheers!

I received an AP unit that had to be reported within 5 hours. My system still thinks that the new AP tasks take hundreds of hours, so it is hardly a surprise that the deadline was not met.

P.S. Is there a reason that SETI beta is down, or did someone just forget to start things after the weekly outage ?

I haven't figured out where these deadlines are coming from. The deadlines should be a constant 30 days (or was it 21) for Astropulse regardless of whether they are GPU or CPU.

I'll have to go through the BOINC check-ins to see if David added different deadline calculations for non-CPU results.

That apparent quick deadline is a side effect. The servers originally tried to send it 9 Jul 2012 | 17:27:10 UTC but for some reason your host didn't see the reply. The deadline at that point would have been on 3 August. Later at 9 Jul 2012 | 22:06:37 UTC when your host again asked for work the "Resend lost tasks" feature for some reason decided it wasn't feasible to resend, so expired it then.

The puzzle is why it wasn't considered feasible. I saw the same inexplicable effect when I converted from anonymous platform to stock last weekend, I had 12 AP tasks carefully preserved so my Q8200 host wouldn't need to download them again over my dial-up connection, but the server only resent 3 of them and expired the other 9. The estimated runtime of the 3 resent tasks was ~33 hours each (only ~15% more than actual runtime), so it's a mystery.

The Scheduler was handing out work after the weekly outage, at least until 11 Jul 2012 | 22:24:13 UTC, less than 24 hours ago. The requests do now indicate the project is temporarily down, I don't know why.

Edit @Eric: The splitter sets delay_bound (deadline) to 25 days exactly. BOINC doesn't change that unless the resend lost tasks logic is needed.

Thanks, Joe. So many things are flying at me the last two weeks, it feels like I've been treading water, but still ending up 20 feet under.

Still plan to get a new scheduler on today that has better clues about credit and send times by checking with older versions of the same app for the same hardware/OS combination rather than making up bad guesses.

Are you talking about the Beta server? There's no S@Hv7 cuda app available here.

Claggy told me that Lunatics_x41g_win32_cuda32.exe was V7 compatible, that it would probably turn out to be the stock app for S&H V7, and suggested that I run that. Before Astropulse came out with a GPU app, what were we to do with these expensive GPU cards? There was a S&H app for ATI cards, how were we to compete with them for credits? What are we to do, like the last day or so, when no Astropulse WUs are available?

Beta testing isn't always about keeping your equipment operating at peak efficiency. When Eric asks for a particular type of testing, IMO one should either comply or do work for another project.

A later derivative of the Lunatics_x41g app indeed will probably become a stock S@Hv7 release eventually, true. So some additional testing of x41g on v7 work has certainly been justified.

IMHO I agree with Joe. Eric’s requests should come first otherwise complete chaos would occur.

No doubt the other apps are faster and maybe better then Stock. And maybe will be used in future Stock apps in which case let the project controller decide and allow every one over here to use both as an option.

Confirming too big initial time estimation for ATi stock again.
I saw good estimation before but now my host downloaded only single ATi task with time to completion >200 hours. Surely it will not download any more tasks...

App details:

AstroPulse v6 6.04 windows_intelx86 (opencl_ati_100)
