I see the problem immediately, you downloaded seti instead of ap.

http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/download/ap_602.jpg

Try that one instead.

DOH... Thanks for that tip LOL

got the file installed to the boinc data folder and set permissions to the file
set the owner to boinc and the group to boinc (abbreviated names)
everything looks fine and matches the attempted download file for permissions etc
the problem is when i run boinc it immediately overwrites the file with a zero byte file and my wu then immediately fail to download as above.

any more help very much appreciated.

I don't know why you would need to install a file manually.
Normally BOINC D/L all what the project need.

If you don't have SAH-beta WUs in BOINC...
1st reset the project or 2nd detach/attach.
Then BOINC should D/L all automatically.

If not, you need to copy the D/Led file to the SAH-beta project folder.
There where the project apps are, e.g. 'setiathome_7.00_windows_intelx86.exe'.
Stop BOINC complete, copy the file to the project folder, start BOINC.

Additional...

How you go to the internet?

Your ISP modifies image files? E.g. with UMTS.

Then you could un-/check 'Skip image file verification?' in the 'Computing preferences' for only this one D/L.

I've tried that and i have the same issue. the file fails to download.
I connect to the internet via my Galaxy S3 on wifi tethering, so maybe the jpg's are compressed.

I will try and reset the project and then disable the image verification when the other files are downloaded.

Thanks for the tips and i will come back and let you know how it goes.

Regards and thanks

Ok one step further to working, The ap_602 seems to have downloaded fine but now the seti_700.jpg is the problem, even with verification turned off.

I have manually downloaded the file and popped it in the project directory... set permissions etc and it still fails on the crc check when boinc runs and replaces it with a zero byte file.

extract from the stdoutdae log
07-May-2013 04:57:22 [SETI@home Beta Test] Started download of seti_700.jpg
07-May-2013 04:57:23 [SETI@home Beta Test] Incomplete read of 4250.000000 < 5KB for seti_700.jpg - truncating
07-May-2013 04:57:23 [SETI@home Beta Test] Finished download of seti_700.jpg
07-May-2013 04:57:23 [SETI@home Beta Test] File seti_700.jpg has wrong size: expected 9068, got 0
07-May-2013 04:57:23 [SETI@home Beta Test] Checksum or signature error for seti_700.jpg

will keep trying but anymore help very much appreciated.

Thanks to all that helped.

Ok the astreopulse WU download and work fine, but the seti WU do not, probably because the seti_700.jpg does not download.
Even when replacing the downloaded file with a good file and setting permissions, as soon as Boinc runs it downloads a zero byte file and fails all the seti WU downloads. And even with image verification turned off.

Any more help or advice appreciated.

Ok. Download the file, set permissions, etc. Shutdown BOINC (not just Manager but Client too), open client_state.xml and find the section that reads something like this:

<file_info>
    <name>seti_701.jpg</name>
    <nbytes>9068.000000</nbytes>
    <max_nbytes>0.000000</max_nbytes>
    <status>1</status>
    <signature_required/>
    <file_signature>

.
</file_signature>
    <url>http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/download/seti_701.jpg</url>
</file_info>

Yours will have seti_700.jpg and the signature might be different as well. Yours should have

    <status>0</status>

Change the "0" to "1", save the file and restart BOINC.

Before you edit the client_state.xml you might want to suspend network comms and make a backup copy of BOINC's data directory.

-----

If you download ap_602.jog and seti_700.jpg manually with browser what file sizes do you get? Are both of them less than 5kB?

Thanks for the reply Juha.
I will give that a go and get back to the forum with the results.

I am Running on Mac OSX 10.8.3 Mountain Lion (if it helps others finding this thread).

The file that generally gets replaced is the seti_700.jpg (the AP_600.jpg seems to have downloaded ok now.
when the file downloads and replaces the existing seti_700 usually is 0 bytes.
If i download the file with my browser then the set_600.jpg is 4,250 bytes (8 KB on disk)

Hope this helps and as i stated above, i will come back and let you know the results of the xml file edit.

Thanks again
Steve

If I'm not mistaken there are / used to be mis-configured proxies or load balancers that, when failing to serve a request, returned an HTML error message, possibly even signaling success instead of error.

So BOINC was modified to drop what it downloaded in case the amount of downloaded data didn't match what was expected and was less than 5 kB.

(I may have gotten the details wrong.)

Judging by the log messages above that feature doesn't work well with ISPs that compress images and when the compressed size is less than 5 kB.

Now I was just wondering how come that Astropulse image was eventually accepted when the Seti image isn't.

So far so good, But not yet had any Seti WU allocated to me so unable to tell if the download WU fail or not.
Hopefully fixed now.

I will come back and keep you up to date with progress.

The info on proxies or caches is interesting as with using my Galaxy S3 for internet i cannot connect to any services on the mac such as ssh etc. So i think they mite actually be routing my traffic through a proxy.
just a thought.

thanks to all again (especially Juha)
:-)
Happily crunching again (I hope)

I have the problem, because I don't download file "cufft32_50_35.dll". I try to download directly "ftp://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/download/cufft32_50_35.dll", but it was nonsucces too.

I usually finished on 85,6% and 19,66MB, boinc manager write that full size is 23,11MB.

Please, do you know other (better) download server?

HELP ME, THX.

Made it linkable.

I had a similar issue arise with the Cuda 3.2 variant. In my case resetting the project to re-download everything worked.
