The stock BOINC requires ARMv7

One more reason to prefer NativeBOINC ;) It just works. Such relief after "official" one ;D

I've released an ARMv6 version in parallel with the ARMv7 version. There doesn't currently appear to be any way in the RPC to tell the difference, so everyone will get both for the time being.

I'm doing it this way to measure the speed difference on identical hardware. If the difference is less than a couple percent we can use the v6 version on everything. Is it's more than that we'll need to figure out a way to distinguish between v6 and v7 in the RPC.

Will be able to test after 20 august probably. Out of town and have no WiFi spot currently to download new app on phone.

No rush, my Droid 1 will still be working on its first result at that point.

Hi Eric...

All my tasks have so far failed on a Samsung Galaxy Mini, even with the new ARMv6 app, whith same "process got signal 4" error

Tasks
Host 64415

It could be also a memory issue, as I can only run Einstein on it... all other projects needs more internal/RAM memory

Regards

Its possible that there could still be ARMv7 code remaining in one of the libraries, possibly FFTW. I'll see if I can find any hiding in there.

Now I have 7.2.9 on both phones.
Einstein www confirms that.
http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/hosts_user.php?userid=214138

Here at Seti Beta it is still only 1 phone that shows.
That is my phone, which now doesn't get any tasks.
http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/hosts_user.php?userid=14842

The other phone(wifes)does get and compute tasks, and it doesn't show up on www
No URL available. And it is doing tasks....

Any chance this can be "fixed"?

I have detached and re-attached both phones.

My suggestion is, on one of the phones, detach from all projects. Go to the in the android desktop Select the menu, then "Manage Apps". Select BOINC and then "Force Stop". Then select "clear data". If BOINC has restarted, select "Force Stop" and "clear data" if necessary. You may want to upgrade to 7.2.11 at this time as well.

Now the phone should have no memory of ever having been attached to a project. Attach to beta and see if it shows up as a different host. Then attach to your other projects.

If that didn't work, wait a couple hours and then do the same thing on the other phone.

Done on first device.
I see no difference.

I'll try second device after lunch.

7.2.11 isn't available at google play.

I did the same to my second device.
It didn't help.

Still using 7.2.9 though..

I'll upgrade as soon it is on google play.

In the event log, what does it show for the computer ID on each phone? Are they the same. (You need to select "Show advanced preferences and controls" in the preferences in order to get the event log to show up in the task tab screen menu.)

If they are the same I think you need to bring this to the BOINC forums, since it's a bug in BOINC.

I posted this in boinc dev forum:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=8519&postid=50226#50226

I can always run different projects on the phones, so for me it's really no big problem.
But it is a bug.

I'll bring this to the BOINC developers list. This is a pretty serious bug.

Sekerob on the BOINC Message board suggested that identification by MAC address might not be active yet: message 50227.

Looking at the release posts by Rom (in the BOINC Android Testing Google Group) for 7.2.9 and 7.2.11, there is no mention of using MAC addresses yet either.

Edit: I've replied to DA (who said it would probably be in the next release (this was on the 6th August)), and asked if it made it into either of the last two releases.

Indeed... another phone, a Samsung Galaxy Ace (more advanced, but also a v6), also showed the same error

I've just sent out v7.08 for Android-armv6. I've rebuilt every library, so hopefully it is fully v6 compatible now. In addition, I've made it friendlier to small memory devices. On devices with less than 512MB, it will use the CPU capabilities to decide which functions to use rather than timing them. (Timing was memory intensive).

An added enhancement... the chosen functions on all platforms will be stored in the state file, so on restart it won't have to benchmark the functions again.
