Now that I'm no longer in charge,

WINNING!

[edit]

Actually, declaring Bernie the winner wasn't quite the last thing I did. I followed it up by logging off the computer, unplugging my trackball, and locking it in my desk for the summer. But I couldn't really declare a winner after doing all that, could I?

Last day was originally last Friday, but we had four bad weather days during the winter. (Support staff who work all year (this will make more sense after you read the next paragraph) have to either slog through the bad weather to work, take a vacation day, or get docked a day's pay.) My first day back is supposed to be August 8 (a Friday, don't ask me why), but they put me on for some computer training on the 6th and 7th. The good news there is that the training is extra pay.

Technically, I don't get paid for the summer (or the two weeks in winter, or one week in spring, or the day after Thanksgiving), but they multiply my total scheduled hours for the whole year by my hourly rate to determine my annual salary, then pay it in 26 biweekly payrolls. So I don't actually get paid everything at the time I do the work, but this is much more convenient. The bad thing is, if I work less than the scheduled hours in a given 2-week pay period, they dock the entire amount of pay instead of prorating it. (Otoh, if I work over, I get the whole thing immediately.)

Winning!

We'll miss you, Bernie. :-(

It was 86 F inside the house, upstairs, last night. I cranked the air conditioning to bring it down to 78 F. Just now, the upstairs read 80 F; so, again, I turned on the AC to bring it back to 78 F.

Our downstairs is fine; only the upstairs heats up this way. As my computer is in a small room over the garage, it is important to me that the upstairs not get so hot.
