Thanks for the win, Mike

I'm truly honoured. I'd like to thank my family, my fellow posters, ...... :-D

Looks like the offer of alcohol has got me in a spot of bother - now I've got to get my brain in gear to come up with a target for this thread :-)

In the meantime, we're off again with #47. Have fun!

The Last Person To Post Here Wins Thread, general rules:

1. Winner of the last thread starts the new one with a post of these rules.
2. Chooses a future event which triggers the winner, e.g. post number, date-time, and records it privately somehow (yellow sticky, etc.)
3. Everyone has fun posting until the target event is reached.
4. When the target is reached, old winner posts declaration of new winner and also PMs them.
5. Shortly after this a Mod will lock the recently won thread.
6. Go to 1.

Congrats SusieQ

Thank you Gary

And now that I've won ....

I do admire your optimism but I think you know what's coming next. I'm sorry, no :-(

On a more general note, the last version of this thread was my first foray into Café SETI so I'm not entirely sure of the etiquette here. Am I allowed to post to my own thread, other than to thank people and advise of progress? Could make a difference to the target I decide on :-)

Woohoo! A shiny new thread to win in :)

Congrats. As to step 5 it helps to red-x instead of relying on me passing through to lock.
You can post to your own thread as much as you like ( observing general rules) just be careful when we close in on the target that you don't accidentally make it yourself :D

Thanks guys

And how would I do that please? Not that we're anywhere close to the target yet :-)

Sorry no popcorn and no mince pies left either - wonder if Zapped Sparky has any peach schnapps left?

bottom of a post, next to the 'ID' number little red square with a white cross? Used to report a post and also to just attract a moderators attention (i.e. me here - sorry the hat is on the other gal), commonly called 'red-x' more formal reporting. useful if you want your own thread locked for some reason, an old thread unlocked or did a double post and want to notify the mods (though here you are talking singular, as Eric and Fred only do emergency modding. The most excitement I get on this job is to close TLPTPW threads and the occasional double)

what, no mince pies? how about hot chocolat wirh marshmellow topping?
Zapped does peach schnaps? may I join the queue?

oh and winning

Got it, thank you :-)

Nice to know we can offer you some excitement once in a while, even if that doesn't mean mince pies, hot chocolate or peach schnapps!

Congrats on your first win, Sue. (Aren't you glad I got you on the boards?)

As to posting to your own thread, I tend to here just to give it a push; you've seen how slow it gets sometimes. At Main, I usually post less than normal, but that's really just because I'm not vying for the win. Once in a while I go for the cheap illicit thrill of double posting just because I'm allowed to in my own thread. Like William said, you want to be careful that you don't influence the outcome when it gets close. It's usually not much of a problem here, but it can be at Main.

Zappy, I will definitely have a Schnapps. I have orange juice to make it a fuzzy navel. I also have vodka to make it a hairy navel. No, wait, I don't. I only have rum. Oh well. I can certainly go buy vodka if I want.

Thank you

I think you may be confusing me with someone else? I seem to be the only SusieQ here on beta but there are several of us on main - not that I venture over there much :-)

Thanks for the advice re posting - I will try to resist the thrill of a double!

Sounds like Zapped Sparky should open a bar - the peach schnapps is proving very popular and not just with me (his offer sparked my response that won the last thread). Cheers!

Oh. Sorry. Yes, there's one there that I've been internet friends with for many years and I talked her into starting to post on the forums (although I think she's been crunching longer than I). But she lives in Texas, not the UK.
