vcgencmd measure_clock arm gives the freq, not what i posted above, one minute too late to edit.

For comparison my Pi 2 gives running just Seti (fitted with a heatsink, but without an operational fan):

vcgencmd measure_temp
temp=57.3'C

vcgencmd measure_clock arm
frequency(45)=900094000

Hooray! I got one workunit to validate on one of my Raspberry Pi 2B machines via native BOINC Manager. Nothing to install or compile!

http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/workunit.php?wuid=8394174

(cpu time to run is not very impressive, but we got one in the "win" column!)
Pi 3 workunit to follow soon.

Message 57362 - Posted: 15 Mar 2016, 23:52:44 UTC - in response to Message 57185.

I'm using a GeauxRobot Raspberry Pi 3-layer Dog Bone Stack Clear Case with Pi 2's in the top and bottom position and a Pi 3 in the center position and I'm getting:

Raspberry Pi 2B - heatsinks but no fan
vcgencmd measure_clock arm
temp=63.8'C
vcgencmd measure_clock arm
frequency(45)=900094000

Raspberry Pi 3B - heatsinks but no fan
vcgencmd measure_temp
temp=84.4'C <<<< Just about "rings the bell"
vcgencmd measure_clock arm
frequency(45)=752078000

Raspberry Pi 2B - heatsinks but no fan
vcgencmd measure_temp
temp=60.5'C
vcgencmd measure_clock arm
frequency(45)=900094000

I'm thinking of putting a fan against the stack to see how that works out.

I'm having an issue on my Pi 1 (armv6) with a large work unit. I had this with the very first WU I ran on it and thought it was a compilation issue. I get the following error and have to restart the boinc-client to get it to continue running:

Running Raspbian Wheezy I assume, I have the same problem still on Jessie, except I don't see the error message,
the app stops producing CPU load, doesn't show any % progress, while showing increasing elapsed time,
Having Boinc set to not allowing the app to remain in memory, then suspending the app or Boinc then resuming is another way of getting it running,
I had this problem when I was compiling at app at r1924, this is before and Arm function choices were added,
See these threads for a bit of background heading, the only bit of advice I can give is to try an old Raspbian image with a 6.10 kernel,
and see if it runs O.K, then do further reporting in those threads:

Raspberry Pi client causing kernel error and freeze

Linux kernel is now 3.12

Kernel bug running BOINC tasks, 3.12.18/19 #600

Thanks. I will look through these links.

I'm running Jessie and I've only had this happen with large WUs or maybe a better way to say it - ones that take a long time. It was doing the smaller WUs on Beta with no trouble.

I am also getting some problems with work units stopping on my B+. A suspend/resume seems to get them going again. I notice them in BOINCtasks as they aren't making any progress and memory usage is zero.

Its running Stretch.

I only have this happen on my Pi 1 B and only with large work units. It ran work units that are around 50 credits just fine, but it has trouble with bigger ones. My Pi 2s don't have this problem.

Like you I don't seem to have this problem on the Pi2 or Pi3.

Maybe there's an ARM v7 instruction in there. I am guessing the only way to eliminate that would be to compile it on B or B+ assuming we can find out which module is actually causing the error. Or maybe its a compiler bug. I don't know, just speculating.

I had the same problem when I compiled the code on the B, and it was running big work units on the main Seti back in January when v8 came out. I find it interesting that it ran fine for a couple of months on Beta when Beta had smaller WUs.

Note - The Debian-based versions of libfftw3-dev have a patch that does run-time detection of neon (see the details in the patches folder: http://http.debian.net/debian/pool/main/f/fftw3/fftw3_3.3.4-2.debian.tar.xz).

Raspbian updated their fftw3 to the debian version a few days ago, that means the Raspbian fftw3 now has Neon detection, I've emailed Eric a freshly built app:

The wisdom file in the slot directory (sudo pcmanfm and change the permissions to view) has on mine and Tom's version up to been like:

Due to having to restart tasks on my B+ every couple of hours I've pulled it from Seti Beta, besides that its rather slow.

I have a Pi2 and Pi3 testing the Seti multi-beam app with updated fftw3 at the moment.

Raspbian updated their fftw3 to the debian version a few days ago, that means the Raspbian fftw3 now has Neon detection, I've emailed Eric a freshly built app

Claggy -

That is great! Thanks.

I will watch for it to show up and switch my Pis back to Beta. Now we just need to find someone that understands ARM assembly to fix the chirp routines. I've been a C programmer for about 30 years, but understanding what is the issue with the chirp routines is beyond me.

Raspbian updated their fftw3 to the debian version a few days ago, that means the Raspbian fftw3 now has Neon detection, I've emailed Eric a freshly built app

Still waiting for Eric to deploy the revised app, no answer, I've sent s bump.

on the production SETI project, I'm getting a "rsyslog-2007" error in my syslog on my RPi-Zero running on Jessie Lite. (I have details in the message board there: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=79400&postid=1782991 )

This causes the task to get nowhere very slowly, as the client keeps stopping. It might be hitting a "stack limit".

Should I run the machine on SETI-Beta to see if I get the same issue?

Message 58198 - Posted: 7 May 2016, 7:49:41 UTC - in response to Message 57384.

My Pi Model B running Jessie, finished it's one wu eventually, late, after many, many suspend & resumes:

I've now imaged my 2nd SDCard with the Jan 2014 Raspbian Wheezy image with the 3.10 kernel, going to see if the problem is eliminated:

Regarding the on going kernel panic problem on the original armv6 Pi on kernels after 3.10.x, the Wu's that work fine on kernels 3.12.x, 4.1.x and 4.4.x are VLARs and VHARs, On Normal AR and High AR's kern.log produces:

So is the problem with the kernel or is it with the SETI ARM code?
