why compare apples to oranges?

i don't think it's fair to compare across different eras. for example your 980 doesn't compare well with a 1070. when i got my cards, the 980 didn't even exist, the best comparison was the 780. yes the cards cost money, not to mention the 1200w power supply, but i don't pay for electricity.

the score would be better except that the computer locked up late last night and i didn't notice it until this afternoon. i'm not running any command lines and i know those make a big difference. i'm only running one wu per gpu; i could run multiple wu per gpu for more credits but at the cost of invalids. i choose not to run any cpu or igpu work. i'm trying to beta test, not trying to hoard credits.

i'm running win8.1 mainly to try to save myself the time required to install win7's hundreds of updates. i could run win10 but then i would also need to run something like shutup to keep the drivers from automatically updating

The network port in my Win10 system is borked so I have to use a little USB Wireless adaptor, and with a wireless connection you can block downloads so they'll only happen when you tell it to download them.
I've also set it to defer updates, so if there is a stuffed update out there, I should hear all the screaming on the Net, and hopefully it will be resolved, before it ends up on my list of updates waiting to download.

i actually want the vast majority of the updates, as they add security, improve performance and add features. but i don't want the drivers that are missing opencl. if you're on automatic updates and you get one of these broken drivers, manually rolling back will do no good because the broken driver will get automatically restored. hence the shutup hack to keep that stuff at bay.

under windows 7/8.1 those broken drivers are listed as optional where they don't do any harm

It's probably a few weeks before I have enough results to compare with the 2-bit workunits for the same data. I'd say no earlier than a month from now.

What current status of this test?
More tasks needed just for this test?

It seems some questions regarding SETI's project bandwidth increase should be solved before full-scale deployment on main.
So, hard to predict when it will be implemented.
Beta with much less traffic is OK to use 4-bit tasks further though.
