Hi!
I just wonder about the old CUDA version that is used on my Nvidia GPUs: CUDA6.0
In the non-beta-project i run CUDA8.0 (even 9.0 i have seen to be available) - and they run much more faster than the "old" CUDA-versions (factor 2-4)
Why are the old CUDA-versions tested in this project and not the new ones?
I found this CUDA80 and 90 apps here: http://www.arkayn.us/forum/index.php?topic=197.msg4499#msg4499
Maybe the code could be implemented into official versions of the seti project?
CUDA60 or older makes no sense for me - even OpenCL is twice faster on actual Nvidia GPUs.

Best Regards

I do believe unless both Petri and TBar officially submit their CUDA apps to Seti Beta, then the apps are unofficial. I thought that Petri stated that he didn't think that Beta was the proper platform for development of the Linux CUDA apps. Same goes for TBar and the Mac apps.

Users that are aware of the apps at Crunchers Anonymous are certainly welcome to download and install them. I have been using the CUDA 9.0 app for about a year now and it is certainly of Main site caliber in stability and accuracy. At this point I don't see any reason to limit the apps just to Beta. We're long past that point now.

OK, the question was more in the direction of why the Beta-Project was using the old version 6.0 of CUDA while version 8.0, 9.2 and now 10.0 is available and the performance increased with every version.

One year later the beta testing is still running CUDA6.0
The openCL ist now 3-4 times faster.

Or do i understand the purpose of Beta in this case completely wrong and not the Apps are tested but some new scientific ideas?

The biggest hangup at Beta for any of the newer CUDA apps is that the apps are only for Linux now. Until the app is multi-platform it won't appear at Beta. The lack of developers for a Windows version of the CUDA9 or CUDA10 apps is what is the issue.

Same goes for Main. Until the apps can be run platform agnostic on Windows, MAC and Linux with the same source code, the CUDA 9 and CUDA 10 apps will only be available to participants that install the app outside of any official BOINC auto installation mechanism.
