Message 759 - Posted: 8 Aug 2005, 22:21:33 UTC
Last modified: 8 Aug 2005, 22:45:29 UTC

Requesting work I got following:

09/08/2005 00:20:20|SETI@home Beta Test|Requesting 259200 seconds of work, returning 0 results
09/08/2005 00:20:33|SETI@home Beta Test|Scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta_cgi/cgi succeeded
09/08/2005 00:20:33|SETI@home Beta Test|Message from server: Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance
09/08/2005 00:20:33|SETI@home Beta Test|Project is down

Any explanation for this strange answer from the server?
Is it something that still hang somewhere from yesterday's outage?

And then even also strange
09/08/2005 00:34:46|SETI@home Beta Test|Sending scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta_cgi/cgi
09/08/2005 00:34:46|SETI@home Beta Test|Requesting 0 seconds of work, returning 0 results

Why at 00:20:20 local time requesting 259200 seconds of work and at 00:34:46 requesting 0 seconds of work?
Nothing has been changed in Boinc between those 2 requests, no preference change, no WU's have been downloaded for any project.
Could it be that a starting WU for Einstein, 1 min. before the request and giving a climbing of the estimated CPU time when starting, can be the reason for this?

Local time = UTC + 2h.
Greetings from Belgium

Does this beta test project share hardware / services with the "production" SETI BOINC project? If so, I assume that the maintenance that has the test project off-line has more to do with reducing the strain on the main SETI project than work that is going on for beta. There’s certainly nothing wrong with this, of course. Priorities should be with the main project.

Yes, it's running off the same computers as Seti proper. I was trying to find the post Rom explained it in, but couldn't find it. :(

So, why do I still have the same message:

The Beta server side is still down. See here. Why? Maybe they are working on the Beta database?

More probably because of this:

August 7, 2005
We are back up after the power outage. Some backend services will remain off until the initial demand dies down.

(Seti main page)

I think we're a backend service. ;)

Looks like seti enhanced is back in the last while. I just managed to return my first two 24hr+ wu's which is a relief.

Thanks Brian, I was looking for the link but appears to be hidden very well.

Its currently showing what it always showed when the project was operating normally but I gave up checking it a few weeks ago.

Then again, these pages are still running while Seti has its new weekly outage to make a backup.

Unless they have to cycle power on the shared hardware, there's no reason they can't stop the services for production SETI for backup and leave the services for the Beta test project up and running.

Yes, so someone noticed these were still running... and shut them down. ;)
