Hey all! I'm running Tetsuji's optimized client for regular Seti and was wondering, for the Seti Beta, is there an optimized version for 4.04. From what Ive read, I need to run his optimized 4.02, but I wanted to verify first. I currently have 3 work units that are estimating 20 1/4 hours until they start crunching. The one I'm in now has 34 1/2 hours in, and another 53 hours to go. I've prevented my other 3 projects from downloading new work so I can crunch these, but if I can get them done faster, that would be cool. My processor is only an AthlonXP 1150. :( I should also state that I'm using boinc v4.45 and the standard Seti Beta enhanced client v4.04 on a windows machine. Peace. William D. Ok, I found part of my answer here, but it gives me another question. If I'm running standard 4.04 and I *upgrade* to the optimized 4.02, don't I have to rename the client and edit the app_info.xml file. I would think it would continue the standard client otherwise. Please correct my if I'm mistaken. Thanks. William D. If you choose to use an optimized application for the beta test project, you should use v 4.02. You've already found the thread that explains how it was created from effectively the same build as from 4.04. Once you place the app_info.xml file and the optimized app in the correct projects directory, BOINC will trash any existing beta project work in your queue and download fresh WU's to crunch. (Finish what you have in progress now if you don't want to see it thrown away!) Please be aware that once you have the app_info.xml file in place, your project will <b>not</b> auto update the application. If the version changes again at a later date, which it is almost certain to do, you will have to manualy remove the app_info.xml file to obtain that change. Until you do so, your results might not compare and validate properly. Happy crunching! :) |
