I still get no response from the S@H schedulers. Maybe anyone knows why? See also this thread
Especially my last message in this thread, with error messages in it may clarify what's going wrong. (Sorry for the frustration put in this message :) )
I appreciate all the replies I get.

Sorry you're still having problems.

From you original thread it seems that BOINC/SETI used to function until a certain date (30-03-5)? Then you started to get the No Schedulers Responded error, and it has stayed the same since? If so....

Berkeleys' servers and network have been operating normally, since around 3rd April - that is, no outages or long-term overload.

Something must have changed on your system at the time the problem began.

As your problem appears to have started on 30/03, we can ignore any effect of the SETI 4.09/4.10 release and withdrawal as these started 1/04.

Hi
10061 is a tcp error message. It means your PC tried to connect to some end point system but that server/system purposefully refused your connection. I'm not sure exactly what is happening here. Are you running the screen saver. Try running without that...it may be uses a port that is not listening and rejection comes from that. That may not then be connected with your inability to contact a sheduler. I will trace some of my connections to see what connects where but as far as I know your PC connects to berkeley on port 80 only and I cannot see why this would be refused unless they were swamped with connections. Unlikely I might add most of the time. Will investigate and come back but try no screen saver.

Is this PC used by another user also? Can you check if Boinc is not already running for that user (use Taksmanager for this and sort by name of process)

Have also a look here.

Well i did a trace. Only port 80 in use. I think the error message is unrelated to the scheduler problem.....my GUESS is that the screen saver uses a port that cannot be connected to. So dump the screen saver...just uses up CPU time anyway. I see you are SP2...how long have you been SP2...recent change?

OK some more thoughts. Let's just check out which server your BOINC is trying to talk to. Can you open a command prompt from the start menu....dos box as we used to call it...the black thing you can type into (sorry if that was unnecessary level of help). In there type "nslookup setiathome.berkeley.edu" but with no quotes and press enter.
You should get something like this....the important bit is that you see 128.32.18.152 come back as below.

C:Documents and Settingsian>nslookup setiathome.berkeley.edu
Server: pluto
Address: 192.168.0.1

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: setiathome.SSL.berkeley.edu
<font>Address: 128.32.18.152</font>
Aliases: setiathome.berkeley.edu

Now do the same for setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu
You should see something like the following. Again the important bit is 66.28.250.125.

C:Documents and Settingsian>nslookup setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu
Server: pluto
Address: 192.168.0.1

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu
<font>Address: 66.28.250.125</font>
Aliases: setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu

Did you get those two IP addresses back?

Yet more thoughts. Check your sched_request file in your boinc folder. These two lines should be present
I put a * in where you would find a less than...cos this forum cant cope with xml tags.

*source_project>http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/*/source_project>
*source_scheduler>http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi*/source_scheduler>

Are they there and look exactly like this?

Also near the bottom of the file you should see this

*url>http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/file_upload_handler*/url>

Do you?
Let us know on all the above....

Ok, first of all thank you all for responding.

This is what I found out:

- In my list of processes only boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe appear. Both are used by the same user (=me).
- When running Boinc without the screensaver the problem still persists. The screensaver gets installed anyway when using the single user install option. But I didn't select it as default screensaver (used the blank screen instead).

When typing nslookup in a command prompt I get the following results: (Server must be my dsl modem)

C:Documents and SettingsDirk>nslookup setiathome.berkeley.edu
Server: SpeedTouch.lan
Address: 10.0.0.138

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: setiathome.SSL.berkeley.edu
Address: 128.32.18.152
Aliases: setiathome.berkeley.edu

C:Documents and SettingsDirk>nslookup setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu
Server: SpeedTouch.lan
Address: 10.0.0.138

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu
Address: 66.28.250.125
Aliases: setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu

When checking the file sched_request.xml none of the lines you asked me show up in this file! What can I do about that? Can I just type them in myself. Maybe more lines are missing....

OK some progress. At least you can see the right servers but he sched_req file has not got them in. I think you should detach from the project and re attach again. I say this cos I'm not sure how that xml files gets written and what needs to be in it. The detatch and reattch may well re -write it which would be ideal. Try it and let us know.

In your earlier post you have the messages

30-3-2005 18:34:49|http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/|Requesting 8640.00 seconds of work
30-3-2005 18:34:49|http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/|Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi
30-3-2005 18:35:10|http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/|Scheduler RPC to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi failed
30-3-2005 18:35:10|http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/|No schedulers responded

These should be
30-3-2005 18:34:49|SETI@home|Requesting 8640.00 seconds of work
30-3-2005 18:34:49|SETI@home|Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi

30-3-2005 18:35:10|SETI@home|No schedulers responded

Try detaching and attach again but using
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu

and not
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/

Hope this works.

Message 97066 - Posted: 10 Apr 2005, 17:41:15 UTC - in response to Message 97061.

To check all above I did a complete new install of the BOINC software. As mentioned above in the prevoius thread, I once did a complete uninstall including removing the Boinc directory. I had to attach to the project again too. Shouldn't the xml files be written correctly when installing again?

Anyway after detaching and attaching to the project like you asked again the lines still didn't show up...:(

I did use the correct url: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
I don't know why the messages show otherwise. Boinc itself did add the extra /.

The xml files should be written again when attaching to a project.

ok well there is the reset option too

-reset_project URL . "Clear pending work for a project. Use this if there is a problem that is preventing your computer from working."
you can run the boinc .exe file with this as an option and it it will reset it

then run boinc again with: -attach_project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
It should ask for your account key and then start with benchmarks etc....after all that you can stop it.

Under windows this is all best installed as a service.....do you do it that way?. If you do then stop the service before you do anything above.

I suggest a service installation anyway.

After that I'm getting stumped!

Hey Thierry .......This problem seems common and I had on two of my PCs. How about a standard text that can be used giving advice. So when people ask we can just cut and paste....hehe...assuming we know the answer of course. Ian

Ok I tried starting Boinc.exe without the manager the way you indicated, with
-reset_project URL and -attach_project. I didn't try the service installation.
The same problem persists, when trying to update it says: Can't find project url.
I'd rather not use the service installation...

Could any other windows services that I might have stopped for security reasons in the past be responsible for the problems? Maybe services related to RPC or Dcom?

I am out of ideas. Damn!
I always use a service with xp or server 2003 as its the most reliable. I hope someone else has the asnwer for you cos I am short on ideas now. I will keep thinking of course.
