And AFAIK the congestion on the Scheduler is down to normal as well. I cannot say anything about connectivity problems in your part of the world though. |

Hi. The system is quite slow right now as it tries to catch up. If you think your problem is different to this you could test your connection. Try a trace route to see if you can reach the server. Details on how to do this are Here. If you find problems paste the trace route output here and we can take a look. |

Seems I'm affected too. But as I stil have an Seti Wu crunching, I think that sometimes I actually get through, but I don't know when that happened last... >tracert setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu Tracing route to setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu [66.28.250.125] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 * * * Request timed out. 2 16 ms 9 ms 31 ms 195.190.249.41 3 14 ms 26 ms 13 ms 42.10ge-4-0-0.xr1.d12.xs4all.net [194.109.5.41] 4 19 ms 33 ms 32 ms 0.so-7-0-0.xr1.tc2.xs4all.net [194.109.5.14] 5 267 ms 283 ms 272 ms portch1.core01.ams03.atlas.cogentco.com [195.69.144.124] 6 294 ms 280 ms 281 ms p5-0.core01.lon02.atlas.cogentco.com [130.117.1.225] 7 110 ms 98 ms 98 ms p10-0.core01.bos01.atlas.cogentco.com [130.117.0.46] 8 143 ms 122 ms 121 ms p5-0.core01.ord01.atlas.cogentco.com [66.28.4.110] 9 274 ms 171 ms 167 ms p5-0.core01.sfo01.atlas.cogentco.com [66.28.4.185] 10 161 ms 181 ms 163 ms g0-1.na01.b003123-1.sfo01.atlas.cogentco.com [66.28.6.2] 11 * * * Request timed out. 12 * * * Request timed out. 13 * * * Request timed out. The first node times out, probably because my DSL modem is configured that way (did not check that lately, so I don't know anymore)... Note: xs4all is owned by Dutch KPN. I'll just wait until it works again. The other projects do work, so they keep my PC busy... |

Think its time to have a VOTE on what we all think of Cogent tbh.
Sorry, I think the feeling about Cogent right now is pretty negative, but unless your offer includes personally replacing Cogent with a more effective (speed and reliability) and less expensive solution, I think your vote wouldn't carry much weight. I'm not defending Cogent, just recognizing that it might well be that neither Berkeley nor Seti/Berkeley have all that much in the way of options. |

Seti is still paying cogent for the line but at a discounted rate. But Even a discounted customer is supposed to get the same level of service as anybody else. If their service is this bad for everyone it does not say much for cogent. 98SE XP2500+ @ 2.1 GHz Boinc v5.8.8 And God said"Let there be light."But then the program crashed because he was trying to access the 'light' property of a NULL universe pointer. |

Well its hard to disagree with you. My fear, though, is there won't be much of a project left if all the people who don't understand these things just walk away/off and don't come over from classic. Reliability is important for seti/boinc to make its name and attract people. Cogent are simply not helping this! |

Cogent are simply not helping this!
I agree that this certainly has been a bad week for Cogent and SETI -- especially since it happened on top of some other upload/download problems last week. Also, like others, I find weekend outages bothersome simply because they happen when participants often have more time to *notice* the outages as they are 'at leisure' and it is also the time when outage resolution (be it a Cogent problem, a SETI software problem or SETI hardware problem) can take a lot longer to deal with. |

Yeah I agree with your weekend statements. Having said that though I do think networking is a 24 hour affair and they must know its down from their metwork management tools and they do nothing to fix it. Now that I really don't understand....free, discounted or full price.....it should be attended to. I also don't understand why Cogent are prepared to get a pasting here every time....I would prefer to protect reputation and get it sorted.......there are millions worldwide having this problem right now. How they gots the b$&&s to ignore I don't know. |

That being said, I agree that this project is quite *public* and so an extended or set of repeated problems is not something folks at Cogent should be allowing without some fairly aggressive corrective actions. Also, it should be noted, that the Cogent link has not been super bad -- this past week has seen two Cogent outages, but prior to that it was fairly solid for a month or more. I am not saying it is acceptable, just noting that some of the stuff being tossed at Cogent is in the heat of the moment. |

I am just basing my expectations on having bought and used these servcices for business purposes over many years. I think they are the worst I have seen tbh and if I were a commercial undertaking relying on them for service I would have walked by now. No doubt others are affected too and will have their say. Frankly we measured network isolation and a few minutes per year is what we got thats all. That was without any form of resillience btw. We actually stoppped regular meetings with our ISP because there was nothing to complain about. That's a common situation in London ..... perhaps SF is different. Anyhow....Cogent they are not good on the service front however generous you feel towards them. |
