Sorry, Sir Ulli - it was started earlier than 3 April, 1999, which is when I joined.

Yes, official launch of seti@home was may 17 1999 - I found the site practically by accident earlier, and it said that it was in beta - so I waited, and waited, and it seemed to be forever that I waited. Then on the 15th I couldn't wait any longer and I thought "ohh well, it's beta, but I can't wait any longe" and then I joined. Good call, actually, as not only it worked just fine, but the launch came two days later - and with my slow machine I didn't feel much of the initial troubles right after the launch ;)

I didn't realize I joined on the official launch Day, I originally
joined Art Bells Team. I am trying to remember how long it took to
crunch my first WU. It was on a P2 300mhz. I loved the screen saver
and everytime there was a spike, My wife at the time would jump up and down
is that ET! jeeze....

Wow, I got in on the first official day then. I heard about it through an announcement sent out in a newsletter I had signed up for relating to outer space (can't even remember what newsletter it was at this point, lucky I can remember what I did yesterday most of the time these days). I read the newsletter and the project sounded interesting so immediately went out and signed up for S@H.

I do remember it taking about 102 hours or so to process a single WU back then on my old 100 mhz computer which is now resting in peace in Silicon Heaven.

Congrats to one and all who like me signed up in the first few days in 1999, unfortunately I lost my password and didn't realise until I had move house. It was from No.48 to No.29 (less than 50 metres)in the same road and I had to change ISP if I wanted to stay broadband. Below is copy from Seti Classic stats.
