Bruno

Please add me to the list.

I think the seti team do an excellent job and I know how difficult it is to develop a project of this complexity.

I am actually very surprised to see my name on the list!
But it's OK I will try to make "honour" to the Club.

I think I need to explain. When I replied to the thread
with this sound link http://161.58.5.90/mib/bestof.wav
"The best of the best" it was just to be ironic...

As things are never "Black or white" or "good or bad"
I consider myself in none of the camp. I support Boinc
for it is a good project and I believe it will be the
distributed computing "platform" for years to come.
I have been very critical towards Berkeley in many of my
posts. I won't mentioned them again but many things went
wrong and critics was justified. I have always tried to
made my critics without attacking anyone and in a
respectful way.

Now things are going smoothly since Monday and I hope
it will continue this way. Could it be that the direction
decided to stop doing other thing and focussed on the
validator to calm down the users? That is what I think but
it doesn't matter.

To pictures what I am trying to say I need to tell a story.
We had major satellite communications problem on the cruise
ship I am working as chief radio officer. We were changing
satellite spot zone and I had to change the modem setting on
our system (MTN shipnet) to acquire another satellite.
I won't go into details but I was missing one crucial pieces
of equipment to make the change. The security of the ship was
not affected (using other network) but the passengers could not
use the phone/fax/email for two days. They were all complaining
and lining up at the information desk saying that they would
never cruise with us again. The truth is I could have used another
system (Inmarsat A) for the passengers but it was so expensive
that the company politics was to use it for ship management only
in case other system are not working. Would we have tell this to
the angry passengers? We finally had to use it but we made an
announcement that the problems have been repaired.... Don’t be fool
to believe all Berkeley’s news. They made mistakes like we all do
but they will never say it. Launching the project live on the 22
was one of them. Did they ever acknowledge?

Ok sorry for the long post and thanks to those who read it all.
And please don't forget that we are the "supercomputer" and without
us the project would be dead.

Warm regards to all and happy crunching
Marc

Ok, Let's go,

Add Emilio González, or Offler, pls. The one you prefer :-)

Certainly they don't deserve such insults. They just try to do their job, and this is a complicated project with the goal to ease distributed computing.

sure enough, things aren't black and white - and as I see it this thread is a reaction to all the blackness and whiteness flowing around here lately (well, blackness actually...)

constructive critisism is a good thing - but there's alot of critisism presented in a form that is un called for - really angry and flaming messages that are totally unnessesary, and deffinately not a way to motivate the seti-guys to continue working on this.

well, that's at least my motivation for joining in this thread :-)
