WIN98
VMM.VXD, VMM32.VXD
In fact you should not find the file vmm.vxd it is part of monolithic
vmm32.vxd.Dr. Watson shows that it is loaded. ( under kernel drivers).
It is called by the registry :

Okay, with everyones help I think I've fixed 5 bugs, most had to do with handle utilization.

We had to work around at least one Win98 bug. I don't know if any others are lurking about yet. I'll post again when I have posted a new build in Alpha.

Rom....

Do these fixes impact only the windows build (non win98 builds like win2k,winXP too), or do they affect all builds?

Are they in the crunching code or boinc itself? (for example, is Cpredictor affected, and will it be a new boinc or a new cruncher?)

It only affects the core client on all Windows platforms. If the problems turns out to be what I think it is, the bug existed on the NT platforms as well. NT can support 4 billion handles though, Win9x machines are stuck at something like 32k.

*Off Subject*
I just wanted to say that this is probably one of the best Threads in weeks. A classic case of people helping people,to secure a fix for a better project for all. I think That "Is The Future Of Boinc".

Thank you to all!!

Okay, I've built a new build, BOINC CC 4.06.

The build can be downloaded from here:
http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/boinc_alpha/download/boinc_4.06_windows_intelx86.exe

Symbols can be downloaded from here:
http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/boinc_alpha/download/boinc_406_pdb.zip

Be advised this build hasn't been vetted by the Alpha team. I do need somebody who is adventurous to tell me if this build helped out at all though.

Uninstalled 4.05 and installed 4.06 on a 98SE P4 Northwood machine. So far so good. Disabling network access stopped the crashes for me, with 4.06 I have downloaded 4 wu's and uploaded all results. Waiting to see what happens when the current wu finishes crunching and a new one starts. :)

Seti and cpdn are running smoothly together on my xp machine, I like the way the preempting feature works.

Keep up the good work.

I have it running on Win98 and WinXP systems, so far running like a champ.

And its still running after a bunch of suspend/resumes and updates.

Ok, I can be adventurous too!
Installed on my celery, the crunching continues, plus it let me do an update to remove all the wu's that were ready to report. Going to try a few things to see if I can break it! hehehe

I've been running BOINC CC 4.06 for over an hour and I haven't seen any problems yet.

It has connected and downloaded new work units and seems very stable so far.

I had 6 98SE machines that were being creamed by 4.05. I've been running 4.06 for one hour and no problems yet. I will report later today.
