Message 42344 - Posted: 3 Nov 2004, 1:13:58 UTC - in response to Message 42161.

> I'm not about to worship some long dead Jewish activist homosexual rabbi >which some tax collector named Simon, who changed his name to Paul, used to >start up a lucritive cult for business purposes (He was in the market for a >change of profession and personal deductions).

Please, allow me to correct you! Before he got converted, Saul was his name and he was not a tax collector. Saul was a Pharissee who persecuted the church with a passion. On the road to Damascus after Christ struck him down he would refer to himself as Paul, which was his Jewish name. (there's no change of name as you mentioned) Paul himself told them around him do not worship me, for I am a man! Worship Christ!

You say that Paul, whom you mistakenly referred to as Simon, used Christ to start up a lucritive cult for business purposes? Have you read the bible yourself, or are you stuck on traditions of men that make void the Word of God? Consider the following verse as Paul himself spoke:

"Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. 2 Corinthians 11:23-27, KJV"

I ask you, what profit did Paul so call receive? The only business I see in the aforementioned text is the business of Christ in which he suffered greatly.

>You can take your holy than thou head and shove it up your ass, along with ?>the Islamic Wahabists, the Pope, and the rest of your zealot ilk. If there >were a hell it would be populated by people like you, so called good >Christians who are responsible for 100's of millions of deaths through >religious wars, famines, the dark ages, witch burnings, inquisitions, and >ethnic cleansing in the last 2.000 years in the name of Jesus Christ, Allah, >or what have you.

The only comment I can say to that is:

"For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? God Forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, "That Thou mightest by justified in Thy sayins, and mightest overcome when Thou are judge." Romans 3:3-4"

> flooded 4,000 years ago and how Noah managed to get all that bio-mass on his

Can I ask you something? Are you able to comprehend the majesty of God? There are many questions in which we, as humans, can't answer. If you took the time to read you will find the majority of them are answered in the bible. Oh, but wait, we can thank evolution for our existence, right? Please tell me which sounds more probable? A higher Power or we just happened to start out of thin air?

You've fallen right into his plan, Beware!

As written in Hosea 6:6 the Lord doesn't want our burnt offerings, but our mercy, which is to say love.

Message 42360 - Posted: 3 Nov 2004, 1:56:55 UTC - in response to Message 42357.

Hey Simeon-
Welcome to the world of SETI
Here you will find a diverse group of people.
Many come from strange lands with some unusual customs and traditions.
Many are just regulars from ordinary places like the N & S America, Africa, Australia, Asia, and other continents.
You may find some people here a bit sensitive when it comes to subject matter that might reflect poorly on their religious beliefs.
So please go easy on Jews, Muslims, Buddists, Taoists, Bahai's, Sikhs, Zoroastrians, Hindus, Hari Khrishnas, Santeros, Mormons, Adventists, Afro Methodist Episcopalians, Scientologists, Virgins of Atlantis, and members of the Church of the Blinding Light of the Presumptuous Assumption.
All these folks have their own particular beliefs- all have validity because people believe them.
That's the thing about religious belief- anybody elses is just as valid as yours.
Otherwise, welcome and feel free to talk about science as well if you like...cc

Message 42366 - Posted: 3 Nov 2004, 2:24:27 UTC - in response to Message 42364.

I was driving late at night down this real dark road in Lajas, Puerto Rico- out in the country where alot of people are always saying they see UFO's all the time and from the side of the road this 'thing' jumped out and stood in the center of the road with it's arms up for a second and about scared the life out of me. The woman in the car with me screamed so loud I almost crashed. She was kind of 'witchy' in that she liked to hang around at a botánica where people go to get special medicines and have the women tell them stuff and she said it was a 'chupacabra' which is a kind of demon that sucks blood out of chickens and other farm animals but what it looked like to me was a runaway monkey from this research station that used to be in Lajas but got closed down after a mess of monkeys escaped and got into peoples trees where they were eating all the mangoes. I was never one to believe that alien creatures from space could maybe actually be demons and angels or satans helpers- I just always thought they were from UFO's- but this girl man she was really sure we saw a demon chupacabra and when we got to town she made me buy her a fat candle with alot of saints and angels and Jesus on the glass and said the priest in the church would bless it for her and that way she wouldn't have to be traumatized by seeing one.
I still think it was a monkey but who knows? I could have seen a real chupacabra or demon. It happened so fast. Religion is good for explaining strange events like this.

>Como es que puedes creer en la chupacabras, pero lo encuentras dificil creer en Dios?

You're asking a real simple question but I already know that no matter how I answer it or what I say thay you're going to tell me I'm wrong and what you believe is what I should be believing because you've been looking at this stuff for a long time and you're an expert on what each verse of the bible really means and how there's really only one single way to look at anything and that's the way you see it and whatever anybody else thinks about it is wrong and you're always right.
I was married for twenty one years to a woman who I loved alot but who had exactly the same way of thinking about alot of things the way you do except it wasn't about bible stuff cause she had a different religion than you but it was about alot of other things where no matter what I answered when she asked me a real simple question just like you just did I knew it didn't matter a damn what I answered with it was not going to satisfy her one bit and she was going to come back at me with her most favorite of questions that was always given when I gave an answer to her first question and that most favorite one was-"WHOA FO?' " whoa fo?' I do this and whoa fo?' I believe that and whoa fo?' I think that that's gonna be alright and whoa fo'? I just cant seem to see anything the way she could see everything so clearly.
I'm proud to say that for twenty one years we were married and there was never a homocide in the family.
You have no interest at all in what I believe. Whoa Fo you asking me about it?

Oh shit...did we have to start a religion thread. Let's all agree to disagree. My God is different to your God...how do you know! All I say is treat other people how you would like to be treated and you can't go too far wrong!

Blessed be the soul of wine (especially a great '91 Grange).

Smiling all the way to the cellar and back.

Happy crunching!

Hello Carl,

Thank you for the welcome. I'm not here to judge or ridicule other religious groups. I am here, however, to defend and express my views just as everyone else on the board has. I'd have to disagree with you when you say:

"That's the thing about religious belief- anybody elses is just as valid as yours."

The thing that makes my beliefs, Christianity, different than other religious beliefs is the simple fact that Christianity addresses the issue of sin and the need of a Savior. Most religions try to replace this need of a Savior by simply doing good works, or by chanting repetitive phrases and verses of their doctrine.

"All of us have become as one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away." Isiah 64:5-7, KJV

Without a Savior, Jesus Christ, ones righteous acts are nothing more than filty rags! Man has become so proud and lifted in heart that he has blinded himeself from the truth.

"The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he who hearkeneth unto counsel is wise." Proverbs 12:15, KJV

>I'd have to disagree with you when you say:

The difference with your brand of your religion is the not your inability to percieve any other answer, thats just the way of blind faith, its your inability to allow others to have a set of beliefs that differ from their own.

The major difference from many, but not all, religions is that christianity converts. Has done for thousands of years. If not by words then by the sword. It must spread itself. It must proclaim its word over above and against all others. The arriogance to presume your religious beliefs should replace another is the one of the defining traits of christianity.

The one thing I've found so fascinating about the bible compared to other religious doctrines is that if you read it with a open mind and heart it makes 100% sense.

"Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, "Every kingdom divided against itself it brought to desolation; and every city or house divided shall not stand:" Mathew 12:25

If you were doing the work your Lord, and Jesus is our Lord, had giving you to do, is it possible to be punish for successfully completing your task? I think not! So then why would Jesus punish one of His disciples for completing the task at hand? Now would it make more sense to send the disciple or the one whom persecuted the disciple to hell? (I'm using an example, and not referring to you going to hell. The right to judge in not mine.)

The wonderful thing about the Lord is that He gives us free choice to make our own decisions. So you can either choose to love Him or reject Him. If the Lord, knowing our evil and sinful nature, knows the final result of those whom
rejected Him, would it not be righteous to send an admonishing through His servants?

As you stated, "When you finally go to your reward and get to meet this Jesus guy." And what a reward that will be! I so look forward to that breathtaking day as do the rest of my brothers and sisters in Christ.

"For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And, If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner? So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good."
I Peter 4:17-19
