Kudos go to this Site that pointed me to the guy that was able to port and compile BOINC and SETI :

http://www.smellycat.net/boinc/

Since the Linked Files are all obsolete, I contacted the man who did the compiling (Erik Trauschke), and he provided me with
boinc_4.50_mips-sgi-irix6.5
setiathome_4.3_mips-sgi-irix6.5

Haven't finished a Workunit with my SGI Octane Dual R12000 yet, and I'm afraid I wasted some ~30 Workunits yesterday trying to get things to work (which really took a while tinkering with the filename for the SETI Client and the app_info.xml) ...

But for now, the machine for the first time is apparently running SETI under BOINC just fine :)
(let's hope for the best)

Okidok, got 5 Silicon Graphics Workstations up and running :o)

Benchmark performance isn't galactic, but the unoptimized Client works with MIPS3 and MIPS4 architectures it seems.

At last, my Irix 6.5 installed MIPS R4400, R5000, R8000, R10000 and R12000 Boxes are in business with BOINC.

Since it took me a day to get everything runnnig and I know of no other place to download them, I've uploaded the Binaries + the working app_info.xml for everyone's convinience :

<p>SGI_Irix6.5 BOINC V4.50 (2.97 MB) :

http://www.falconfly.de/boinc/boinc_4.50_mips-sgi-irix6.5.bz2</p>
<p>SGI_Irix6.5 SETI V4.30 (2.59 MB) :

http://www.falconfly.de/boinc/setiathome_4.30_mips_sgi_irix6.5</p>
<p>SGI_Irix6.5 app_info.xml (right-click in Browser to 'save as')

http://www.falconfly.de/boinc/app_info.xml</p>
----------------------
Small Checklist to get it working (from non-geek for non-geeks ;)

- Create BOINC Directory
- Unpack boinc_4.50_mips-sgi-irix6.5.bz2
- Copy 2 Files (BOINC, SETI) into BOINC Directory
(give them executing rights with "chown root:root *" if copied via Samba Share from a Windows System for example)
- Launch BOINC " ./boinc"
(assuming Binary was renamed to 'boinc' for ease of purpose)
- BOINC will ask for Project URL and Account Key - enter both
- BOINC will then Suspend Network and Computing activity to run Benchmark
* Interrupt (CTRL-C) while benchmarking to avoid BOINC not finding Berkeley server and automatically Detaching Project again
(assuming the machine has no overall Proxy set yet)
- Copy SETI Binary V4.30 into the newly created projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu Directory
- into that directory copy or create the app_info.xml
(this will enable the 'anonymous platform' feature of BOINC, enabling an unknown Platform to aquire work from the Server)
- go back into the BOINC main Directory, and edit the client_state.xml to reflect your Proxy settings (if needed)

... BOINC is now ready to launch, run its first Benchmark, then contact the Server to register the new Host into the Database and have it work assigned :)

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still have to wait until the first machines finish their first WorkUnits and see if their work validates okay.

Update :

- First Results validated okay :)
- I just received a new BOINC Version via EMail

SGI_Irix6.5 BOINC V4.58 (2.99 MB) :
http://www.falconfly.de/boinc/boinc_4.58_mips-sgi-irix6.5.bz2

GUI_RPC is working with V4.58, thus MIPS SGI Systems can now be integrated into BOINC Networks and Remote Controls are working.

Hi, folks, thank you very much for the good work. I'm very glad that my Octane R12000@400Mhz can now go on crunching for seti@home.

The boinc-version of seti@home-software should be made available on the official seti-server. Do you see a chance to realize that ?

Ask the project team for adding a link from the porting site ( http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_other.php) to your site.

If you wan't, it is posible to add a link to your webpage with your compiled clients, to the third party site (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_other.php).
Please contact me via email (seti-boinc@dotsch.de), that I can report the link to the boinc project team for adding.

Sorry for the blank post earlier - I am running 4.58 Indigo running Irix 6.5, and it's chugging away. :) Everything works great except I am having trouble connecting with boincadm from my freebsd machine. I googled for a while and found a few answers, e.g. I created the file remote_hosts.cfg with the hostname of the computer running boincadm, and I'm running boinc on the SGI with the -allow_remote_gui_rpc option. I've also tried creating a file called gui_rpc with a password in the boinc_directory, but boincadm is saying the password is incorrect. These machine are on the same lan. What else can I try?

Thanks in advance!

You did restart BOINC and/or the host after creating the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file right?

Right. I restarted "boinc -allow_remote_gui_rpc" on the sgi, which is the one that I want to monitor and also boincmgr on the freebsd box, where I'm trying to watch it.

Two possible clues are that I had some trouble with passwords on other machines -

First, when I used vi to create passwords it didn't work, but the automatically generated ones did. I got what I wanted by editing those files and removing everything up to the last character, then inserting my password in front. I've read I need a carriage return at the end but when I hit enter at the end of the line it doesn't work. On the SGI, I've tried both a fresh file and also a copy of a working one from another host - still doesn't work.

Second clue is on the boincmgr machine I see this when it fails to connect:
connect: Operation now in progress
init_poll: get_socket_error(): -1
Nonce not found

Thanks for the reply!
