Mort
As a teenager, Mort has a personality and temperament that makes him unsuited to the family farming business. Mort's father Lezek takes him to a local hiring fair in the hope that Mort will land an apprenticeship; not only would this provide a job for his son, but it would also make his son's propensity for thinking into someone else's problem.

At the job fair, Mort at first has no luck attracting the interest of an employer, but just before the stroke of midnight, a man wearing a black cloak arrives on a white horse, saying that he is looking for a young man to assist him in his work and selects Mort for the job. The man turns out to be Death, and Mort is given an apprenticeship in ushering souls into the next world (though his father thinks he's been apprenticed to an undertaker).

Mangrove swamp jetski
This one begs and explanation. I was anchored in a small bay off the coast of Mexico when another yacht came and anchored nearby. It was someone I had met earlier in the voyage at one of the yacht clubs. This Microsoft founder had jetskis on his boat and we spent some time zipping in and out of the mangrove roots. He hit a root and launched one into a tree. We spent a couple of hours trying to get it out, but finally he said to forget it. He would just buy a new one in San Diego. So whenever I think of Mangrove swamps I think jetski

Sandman and Logan's Run
In the year 2274, the remnants of human civilization live in a sealed domed city, a utopia run by a computer that takes care of all aspects of their life, including reproduction. The citizens live a hedonistic life but, to maintain the city, everyone must undergo the ritual of "Carrousel" when they reach the age of 30. There, they are vaporized and ostensibly "renewed". To track this, they are implanted at birth with a "life-clock" crystal in the palm of their hand that changes color as they approach their "Last Day." Most residents accept this promise of rebirth, but those who do not are known as "Runners" and "Sandmen" are assigned to pursue and terminate them.
