NYC in 12k. What do you do if you've got a 6-axis gyro stabilized gimbal? Stick 3* 8k cameras on it on a drone and film NYC. I've you've got a large 4k monitor the images are truly impressive, particularly the early evening section. (Reminds me of scenes from Bladerunner and The 5th Element). Grant Darwin NT |

NYC in 12k. Don't have a 4k monitor but that video is downright AWESOME! BTW... That was no drone. The gimbal and cameras could not be installed on any drone I have ever seen, well except maybe military drones. A helicopter was used for the shoot. Here's some images. New Noctua fans capable of both high static pressure & high air flow. Their iPPC fans still outperform these. These are only high performance high flow when normalized for dB output. NF-A12x25 (these fancy new ones) 2000rpm Airflow: 102.1 m³/h (60 cfm) Static pressure: 2.34 mm H₂O Noise: 22.6 dB NF-F12 iPPC 2000 2000 rpm Airflow: 121.8 m³/h (71.6 cfm) Static pressure: 3.94 mm H₂O Noise: 29.7 dB don't get me wrong, they are good fans, but nothing revolutionary. Pretty similar to Gentle Typhoons or EK Vardar fans. Seti@Home classic workunits: 29,492 CPU time: 134,419 hours |

I looked at them too when they were announced. Kinda kludgy to have to use adapters to turn them into 140mm fans. Should have released a 140mm version of its own. I compared the specs the same as you to my Noctua NF-F12 IPPC 2000 fans and didn't see any reason to buy them for that way too high price, even for the normal high prices of all Noctua products. First there was SLC, then MLC, then TLC. Now QLC has arrived. The drives announced today are aimed at the enterprise market, for read heavy applications. Intel And Micron Launch First QLC NAND Micron indicates that their QLC NAND is good for around 1k Program/Erase cycles, which suggests a limit of at most about 0.5 DWPD before write amplification is taken into account. This is still higher than many consumer SSDs, where 0.3 DWPD is a typical rating for entry-level SATA SSDs with 3D TLC NAND. Grant Darwin NT |

Toshiba KumoScale NVMe-oF An interesting piece of software for those with lots of data to access, and the hardware to do it. The performance numbers by themselves are amazing, but the latency figures are even more impressive. Remote storage, with latency on par with local storage. eg SQL Workload, 1.1 million IOPS with 160 microsecond latency. For 64K sequential performance, the server hit 13.36GB.s read and 8.83GB/s write. Random reads & writes are equally as impressive. Grant Darwin NT |

So I'm trying to pinpoint a weird problem I've been having on my main rig across two installs of 7 now, both on Bulldozer setup from 2012 and brand new Ryzen+ setup. Pretty sure it is the GPU drivers, and I suspect win10 won't have any issues.. but I'd like to stay with 7. Other than the entire desktop display engine going unresponsive when the display goes to sleep, and human input devices also go non-responsive (but the kernel and networking services stay running just fine), everything else with 2700X + win7 seems to be just fine. SO for a few days while I'm trying 10 (ew, I don't like it, but I have to stick to it for a few days for troubleshooting), boinc 6.10.58 wouldn't install in 10--failed at creating one of the boinc accounts or something. So I had to do 7.10.2 just because it was the most-recent. If I remember.. wasn't there some weird thing about how you could go from 6.x -> 7.x just fine, but going the other way later on is going to cause some problems? I will say that I *very much* do not like that the messages are now totally separate. But yeah, once I decide to go back to 7 in a few days, what do I need to do in order to carry the programdata folder back over to 7 which has 6.10.58? I will say that I *very much* do not like that the messages are now totally separate. That would be the biggest issue most of us had with that version- it should have it's own tab in the Advanced view. But not having to muck around with app_info.xml when reserving CPU cores, or changing the number of WUs being run, or when making use of command line options is a nice trade off. I remember likewise- going from v7 back to v6 wasn't possible, but I can't recall just what the issue was, or the workaround (if any). Grant Darwin NT |

I'm not sure what is actually required to do it, but some people have said (I think) they run v6 manger with v7 client to retain the log view. It may be as simple as copying the old v6 MGR app (if you have a copy) over the v7 one, but likely not ... |

I was supposed to stick with win10 for a few days to determine if the issue I've been having still persists or not, but I couldn't stand 10 any more, so I went back to my 7 install (different SSD, so it's quick to change from one to the other--both are not installed at the same time). I was afraid of getting a new computer ID since I knew there was something about the rpcsequence number of whatever in the scheduler contacts, and the win7 install last contacted about 12 hours ago, but the win10 install did so more recently. But after coming back into 7, it did the scheduler contact just fine without giving any complaints. Fortunately, the cache was empty, so there weren't really any problems there.. I just didn't want to deal with the hassle of having to merge duplicate machines and stuff and so forth. Waiting to see if the AMD Community forum approves my new post about the issue and to see if anyone has any suggestions other than "7 is ancient, stop using it." For now.. I just set the display to never go to sleep and that keeps things from crashing. Linux laptop: record uptime: 1511d 20h 19m (ended due to the power brick giving-up) |

The latest NVidia driver release might result in a crunching performance improvement if you do a clean install & leave out the GeForce Experience feature. NVIDIA is rolling out the new privacy center and requisite changes to their new privacy policy. Both of these indicate that telemetry will return to being solely a GeForce Experience feature rather than being part of the standard display drivers. The latest NVidia driver release might result in a crunching performance improvement if you do a clean install & leave out the GeForce Experience feature. Hi Grant, I quit using GeForce Experience a long, long time ago in an Operating System far gone today. ;-) I used it on Win 7 and it would tell me there was an update so I would try to get it. It would sit at download forever and not do anything. Somewhere along the line I found, either here or on the Internet, that GeForce Experience should not be used. So I will download the update, start it, do a clean and custom install where I will deselect GeForce Experience and continue on with the install. I'm glad you posted about this. Looks like I'm in need of another update. ;-) Thanks Grant! :-) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. [Highly recommended for people over 40 who think they're not into "gaming"] Been playing "The Wolf Among Us" for the past few days. Never played a game by TellTale before so I'm quite impressed. Looks so damn beautiful on an IPS screen too. A bit more than halfway through it and like it enough to recommend. If you like comics you should probably get at least one TellTale game to check out and see if it's for you. Summer Sales should be happening in all online stores some time in June so be patient if interested in any games right now :) https://deals.razer.com/games/the-wolf-among-us https://www.gog.com/game/wolf_among_us_the https://store.steampowered.com/app/250320/The_Wolf_Among_Us/ I spent most of last Summer playing the first part of the Mass Effect Trilogy. Absolutely fell in love. Spent around 120hrs for 1 playthrough. And played twice in a row :) Highly recommended for slightly casual. If you're not into bullet-hell &/or ADHD-type beat-the-clock and run through the game as fast as possible... then this is highly recommended. For Sci-Fi fans, Trekkies & fans of Arthur C. Clarke's Rama series, the first game is a must. Buy it on sale and you won't regret it. https://www.origin.com/irl/en-us/store/mass-effect/mass-effect https://store.steampowered.com/app/17460/Mass_Effect/ Trilogy only on Origin (will likely be 10-12$ on sale): https://www.origin.com/irl/en-us/store/mass-effect/mass-effect-trilogy I tried playing part 2 and even though there's a Paul Verhoeven vibe (RoboCop, Total Recall, StartShip Troopers) I really like... it's just too much of a shooter for me. Couldn't get into it after the first game. Maybe I'll try again this Summer. Or try FallOut: New Vegas that's in my library :) |

ASUS to release MoBo with 20 GPU support Oh great, just what we need, more miners buying up the GPUs and further inflating the prices for those of us that CANNOT afford to spend $1000 on a video card. I just hope that my GTX 1050ti out lasts me, 'cause I cannot afford to buy a replacement. Cryptocurrency could not go away fast enough in my opinion, not that it's ever gonna. :( I watched a video where Paul, the video maker, walked into a Fry's, I believe it was, and saw a guy pushing a cart out with about 10 GTX 1070s. The price at the time was about $700 or more each. Paul went to the shelf and there were NO 1070s on the shelf. Damn cryptocurrency mining!!! I am getting the message that Microsoft Silverlight is outdated on my Windows 10 platform, and next asked if I would run it anyway. If perhaps a choice between a manual install, and that of an automatic update, in successive order, no question about what is the easiest. But then you leave the system in charge, and also that of download versus install as well, and for this NVidia as such an example. Make it rather Teraflops, and it could be a wording of choice, except for not making it such a thing as APR either, which I interpret as "average processing rate". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLOPS Perhaps not the way nature should be working either, or maybe even interpreted, for next once again Thursday, and closing in on on yet another weekend. Editing the post, and next I am repeating myself, losing the previous. |
