They bought ARM from Softbank. ARM stands for Advanced Risc Machine but it stood for Acorn Risc Machine when I saw an Acorn PC in 1985 in Hannover. Olivetti held the right for ARM microprocessors and was foolish enough to sell it. Now ARM microprocessors power 95% of the world cell phones, but Olivetti did not believe in cell phones. I have used a MIPS Risc minicomputer when working in Trieste Research Area from 1991 to 1995 and know what a Risc computer can do. Risc stands for Reduced Instruction Set Computer. Tullio |

Most of the commentary I have read is that everyone is afraid that Nvidia will become a juggernaut setting industry standards for cloud computing with AI with a close tie-in between their advanced ARM cpus driving their gpus. Not going to be a challenger in the desktop cpu wars between Intel and AMD probably. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

In the last Top500 list number one is a Japanese supercomputer with ARM microprocessors. It has beaten all X86 competitors. Tullio |

Water cooling done properly. In-chip water cooling With the system in operation, temperature would rise by only about a third of a degree Celsius for each Watt of power it was handling. With a heat tolerance increase of 60°C, this meant the device could extract 176 watts while requiring a water flow of less than a milliliter per second. Grant Darwin NT |

Morning Tom. Who so cheerful? Everywhere I look, it seems all doom and gloom!Maybe a change of glasses is required or you're looking in all the wrong places. ;-) Cheers. |

Successful transition to V11 blockchain yesterday at Gridcoin. Team requirements removed. i wonder if that's why my magnitude dropped so much? i was around 3000, now 2200. did you see a drop too? Seti@Home classic workunits: 29,492 CPU time: 134,419 hours

Successful transition to V11 blockchain yesterday at Gridcoin. Team requirements removed. Yes, my magnitude dropped by almost half. We now have to split the pie among a lot more people of the daily 115000 magnitude available. But the rewards should trend upward as the network mag factor was fixed to 0.25 and no longer free-floating averaging over a two week period. Should no longer see rewards pending fluctuate up and down. I always found that annoying. Did you upgrade your wallet? Advertise your beacon with the new Beacon Wizard? https://www.reddit.com/r/gridcoin/comments/im8ktw/gridcoin_5000mandatory_fern_release/ Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

yeah I did all that. I updated the wallet a few weeks ago, and it looks to have advertised itself yesterday Yes, there are a lot of posts talking about that and the problems it is causing. If you did not go through the Beacon Wizard, your beacon is not going to be validated and you will not earn any more GRC after the beacon does not show in the Superblock. You need to validate your beacon as it is only valid for three days. There is a validation code in the Beacon Wizard that you have to change your name in a project temporarily until your beacon gets picked up by the Superblock. You only have to do this once on a single project and can change your name back after the Superblock picks up the beacon and your Beacon icon changes color from yellow to green. You can either run through the Beacon Wizard again or you can use the console to get your validation code with the beaconstatus command and copy the verification_code field and insert that as your project name. I use Universe because it updates its stats multiple times a day and it always gets picked up in the Superblock in half a day. Then you can change your name back at Universe to what you normally use. Once the Superblock validates your beacon, your beacon icon will turn green and you are good to go. You won't ever have to do this procedure again as long as you keep your beacon active. If you let it expire and fall out of the Superblock, you will have to run through the Wizard again and validate your beacon. Well, it really is shame Seti isn't running anymore , it would have been interesting to see what the new RTX 3000 series cards would have been capable of here. Here's a hint- Grant Darwin NT |

I updated the wallet a few weeks ago, and it looks to have advertised itself yesterday i changed my name on Universe to the verification code from the wizard about 2 days ago the beacon still shows yellow status (waiting for confirmation) but i'm still receiving my POR rewards, paid first time since new beacon yesterday. not sure how much longer it'll take Seti@Home classic workunits: 29,492 CPU time: 134,419 hours

Well it didn't help the project was down for most of yesterday and they didn't export any stats. You will have to wait for them to export stats today and get picked up by the Superblock. You didn't change your name for at least a day after you published your beacon. I don't know if you will make it in time. The validation code is only good for 3 days once published. If your beacon icon is still yellow after today's superblock I think you will have to publish your beacon again and change the validation code again. If your beacon is green, then everything is good. You can also check the the status with beaconstatus in the wallet console. Did you really earn POR rewards? There were a couple rains to everyone's wallet after the hardfork. They are labeled as DPOR Beacon CPID Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

You will have to wait for them to export stats today and get picked up by the Superblock. yes, I really got a reward. after the Beacon CPID payment (and for roughly the same amount). for about a day, I did nothing, as I wasn't aware that I had to. it auto-advertised the beacon for me. then I saw your post, and ran it through the wizard manually, got the code, and clicked finish. I changed my name to the code given AFTER running though the wizard just a few mins prior. I have to assume running though the wizard again, gives me a new code? Yes running through the Wizard again will generate a new validation code. What does beaconstatus show? Does the validation code in the report match the verification code the wizard generated and what you changed your name to on Universe? If your beacon is still not validated and yellow, your beaconstatus report will show two verification codes. One for the auto renewal that happened and one for the manual run through the wizard. Yes, it seems a lot of people got into this bind because they never read any of the multiple messages and posts in the Gridcoin forums or websites. The procedure was well publicized but if you never look at any board or website devoted to Gridcoin, I guess you never saw the messages. I follow Gridcoin on both Slack and the Discord server channel. And pop into the /reddit Gridcoin channel occasionally. The code is being updated in a new point release to not have the autorenewal happen when the beacon wizard is in use. Does the validation code in the report match the verification code the wizard generated and what you changed your name to on Universe? beaconstatus shows 3 beacons. what i assume is the old one, showing active. the auto generated one, showing pending. and the new one, also showing pending. looks like the auto one expired, and i got the new code and changed the name on Universe again.
