Hello Users I am curious: having in one system a new GTX1080 (non-Ti) I observed that according to GPU-Z the memory controller load was bouncing between 15-35%. The GPU Load itself states 90%+. Lunatics has been installed and I am running 12 CPU-WUs & 3 GPU-WUs at the same time. Any hints? What is your output from a single 1080? Thx! |

You are using the cuda app. I suggest to rerun the Lunatics Installer and choose nvidia SOG app. Also reduce to 10 CPU cores. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

As Mike says, running CUDA applications on a GTX1080 is very GPU memory sparse, but will use a fir proportion of the CUDA cores. This is by design. The "SoG" application needs the support of a CPU core as well as using a lot more of the GPU memory, but it is much faster (two or three times faster under windows). Agreed, once you have changed to the SoG application, next thing to do is create a app_config xml and place it in the setiathome folder If you not already you need to unhide ProjectData so you can navigate to the Boinc directory then from there find the project folder and then finally setiathome.berkeley.edu folder using notepad you want to copy the following <app_config> <app_version> <app_name>setiathome_v8</app_name> <plan_class>opencl_nvidia_SoG</plan_class> <avg_ncpus>1</avg_ncpus> <ngpus>0.33</ngpus> <cmdline>-sbs 1024 -period_iterations_num 1 -high_perf -hp -high_prec_timer -tt 1500</cmdline> </app_version> <app_version> <app_name>astropulse_v7</app_name> <plan_class>opencl_nvidia_100</plan_class> <avg_ncpus>1</avg_ncpus> <ngpus>0.33</ngpus> <cmdline>-unroll 28 -oclFFT_plan 256 16 256 -ffa_block 12288 -ffa_block_fetch 6144 -tune 1 64 4 1 -tune 2 64 4 1 -hp</cmdline> </app_version> <project_max_concurrent>10</project_max_concurrent> </app_config> You then want to save this. Now this is the tricky part. In the Notepad at the bottom, it will say save as and have to change that to *.* If you don't , it will say it as a txt file and boinc will not recognize the file. Once you do this, You want to "save as" and type app_info.xml . It will ask you do you really want to use .xml Yes you do. then save this file to the setiathome.berkeley.edu folder. I took the liberty of adding the commandlines to the AP and MB work units and included a project max as well. This will limit you to 10 work units total. 3 GPU and 7 CPU. That will free up 2 cores. Note that GPU work units always get preference over CPU ones until such time as you run out of GPU assigned task, then the remaining CPU threads will pick up a CPU assigned work unit. Good Luck ![]() ![]() |

For the bottom AP cmdline , shouldn't it be unroll -20 for him? His 1080 is not a Ti version |

Wow guys. Thank you for supporting. So the schedule for next week includes: -reduce CPU cores: check -installed lunatics and choose correct Nvidia driver: check -create a app_config xml: following days |

While creating your list of things to do - turn OFF windows drivers update, the last thing you want to have happen is windows decide to over-write the drivers yo have carefully selected with their potentially cut-down versions.... Hi Rob, If running Windows 10, forget trying to turn off driver updates from Micro$oft. I got screwed by them a couple weeks ago. I found out the the setting to stop driver updates has been removed since build 15019 or something like that. Micro$oft wants their unconditional control over everybody's PCs. I don't know if they are going to mess with windows 7 or not. I wouldn't put it past them. :( Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? Thanks for the update - it certainly looks as if MS are trying to dominate everything they can.... On my remaining Windows machine I turned off updates some time ago after a "significant battle" with one that brought a lot of other programs to their knees and totally wrecked some of the proprietary drivers. Hi Rob, Ever hear of Skynet? I equate Micro$oft to Skynet, a fictional AI program that took over all servers and PCs across the planet in the third Terminator movie. Sometime in the near future, Micro$oft will be launching their Pay-as-you-go OS. You can be sure that PCs running Windows 10 will get the "new" OS automagically through Windows Updates. Then when one wants to use "their" PC, a window will pop up demanding a credit card number and the option to go monthly or yearly. This is not fact, it is just my interpretation of how Micro$oft will shove their "new" OS down our throats. No credit card number, no using your own PC. The PC will now be owned by Micro$oft. Time for Linux to leapfrog past Micro$oft. Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Linux is going to have it's own problems soon if any of the post going around are true. Google code of conduct and linux. Should prove interesting over the next months. ![]() ![]() |

If it gets implemented like I've heard it might, and the people who get the boot out of the community (and/or their supporters) stick together and pull their code, and then actually take the next step and sue people (major corps, obviously, who in their right mind would chase after broke arse individual users lol) who are at that point illegally using their copyrighted software, Linux honestly could be in a world of hurt. As you said, it's going to be an interesting next few months to see how this all plays out. ![]() ![]() |

I am very confused by these posts. What is going on? What or where are the discussions everyone is referencing. I have found no mention on the Interwebs about anything damaging happening to Linux. I have only found the Code of Conduct document. So can someone point me to where this is being discussed? These Unix/Linux scares pop up every few months. There is a "real" issue in a twenty years time - Unix date roll-over, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2038_problem Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Biggest possible GPU usage load with smallest possible GPU memory controller load is the key to good processing performance. So nothing wrong in low memory controller % as long as GPU load stays ~100%. (of course it's the rule with own exceptions but to get into those exceptions app code changes are required). SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |
