I apologize if this is the incorrect forum to post this to, but I just wanted to make sure this was reported to the SETI@Home team. I have a few different ARM machines running SETI@Home on on BIONIC version 7.6.33 that are able to run the "Show Graphic" option just fine. I recently added my MacBook Pro to crunch more SETI@Home data but found a peculiar bug when trying to show the screen saver graphic. If I attempt to add BIONIC as my Mac's default screen saver or if I click the "Show Graphic" from the BIONIC GUI after about 5 or so minutes I'm finding that this completely crashes my whole system. In both instances the graphic will just freeze completely and the whole system will become inoperable, forcing me to have to perform a hard shutdown on my machine. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling BIONIC and the same issue persisted. The issue only seems to be happening with SETI@Home, and I've verified it happens on other macOS machines as well. I tried looking through the Console but couldn't find any crash logs prompted by BIONIC (at least that I could see). My machine is running BIONIC v7.14.2 with the following specs: MacBook Pro 15' Mid 2015 macOS Mojave (v10.14.1) Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4870HQ CPU @ 2.50GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 70 Stepping 1] AMD AMD Radeon R9 M370X Compute Engine (2048MB) OpenCL: 1.2 INTEL Iris Pro (1536MB) OpenCL: 1.2 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Memory If anyone knows where I can dig up some more information on the system crashes that may help out the dev team let me know so I can forward that onto them. Is this a known issue or has anyone else experienced this? "I'd love to change the world, but they wouldn't give me the source code" - Unknown |

I remember Win10 having a screen saver bug that screwed up Boinc thoroughly. But I don't really know if that is a relevant observation. I wonder if using a different screen saver than Boinc will change anything? Another words, if a non Boinc screen saver is used, does running the neat graphics on a CPU task still crash your system? When I reinstalled BIONIC I tried getting rid of their screen saver entirely, but when I ran "Show Graphic" inside the application it still ended up causing it to crash. It's just interesting that it's only SETI@Home that is having this issue. "I'd love to change the world, but they wouldn't give me the source code" - Unknown |

When I reinstalled BIONIC I tried getting rid of their screen saver entirely, but when I ran "Show Graphic" inside the application it still ended up causing it to crash. It's just interesting that it's only SETI@Home that is having this issue. I know that people are successfully running Darwin-based Seti tasks and I think I remember some of them muttering about how much they had to tweak them to get them to run reliably. But the most successful (eg. highest RAC's) I have seen are all on systems that don't do the graphics screens at all. So this might be that kind of issue. :( I suppose you could join Seti-Beta and see if there is anything cooking that doesn't crash :) Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

Sticky Point of Contention... (Detail Oriented Tech here...) B O I N C = BOINC This is the name of the App, NOT BIONIC! Please make note of this. I've seen MANY people over the years call BOINC "BIONIC"... There is NOTHING bionic about BOINC! It is the Application that allows our Science Apps and Projects to Crunch. ;-) TL [EDIT:] BOINC = Berkeley Open Infrastructure Network(ed) Computing TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel...
