Hi,

I can stop the boinccmd with boinccmd --quit to do updates and upgrades, but how to start it again afterwards?

Thanks, it's probably a simple solution, but I cannot see a start or run command anywhere.....

You don't stop boiccmd with boinccmd --quit, because boinccmd isn't constantly running. You stop the BOINC client with boinccmd --quit, and can start the client again afterwards with "sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client start" (without quotes)

Thanks for the explaination, it's clearer to me now.

The info you have given I will try this weekend, seems easy when you know how (but that's always the way with software).... :)

Many Thanks!

boinccmd is the command line way of commanding and controlling the BOINC client. This in case you cannot use BOINC Manager (the GUI) for one reason or another. See https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Boinccmd_tool for its manual.
