Hopefully, this isn't the start of a new dawn of hybrid viruses infecting Microsoft systems: Researchers Find Malware Hiding in Windows Subsystem for Linux wrote: The malware targeted WSL to evade detection mechanisms... Is this where COVID jumps the next species barrier to run rampant through the Microsoft world to then hungrily slaver over an open portal into the world of Linux?... IT is what we allow it to be! Sign disclaimer or no can use Win11... Some Windows 11 Users Must 'Sign' Disclaimer Users who upgrade "incompatible" machines to Windows 11 may have to agree to a lengthy disclaimer. Microsoft warns PCs could suffer damage, which suggests it may be trying to head off lawsuits. |

Been running Windows 10 Pro un-activated for some time. While it has not been a month yet, googling I read numerous reports it will keep running but I will lose some benefits like customizing wallpaper and other cosmetic stuff. I would see $25 advertisements for Win10 pro on Facebook and I used to report them as fraud but not anymore. Its down to under $17 on Amazon and everyone know Jeff Bezos does not lie. I have mint "20.20" running on an old system. It looks really good but It thinks my AMD S9100 is a W8100 and my S9000 as an ATI FirePro V with 3gb ram. The S9100 works ok but the S9000 crashes mint. I asked about the problem over at AMD community and was told to use "20.04". I complained that the driver is reporting the wrong info, not the OS and my complaint never showed up nor did my complaint about the complaint not showing up. I can still log in so I am not banned. Both boards work fine in windows 10. AMD knows where the money is and listens when Microsoft speaks. Another thought: I used to dump out the bios and look for corporate keys like Dell, HP, IBM, Asus, etc. Not any more. No need to find the matching corporate key to activate an old motherboard. Just put in windows 10 and try to live without changing the wall paper or customizing the desktop after a month. |

By 'eck! That's an old system!! AMD FirePro S9000, Tahiti PRO GL, GFX6 (gfx600), GCN 1.0 Architecture, launched on August 24th, 2012 AMD have moved onto a whole new graphics driver (AMDGPU) in Linux that likely no longer supports such old hardware. You'll likely need to select the old "Radeon SI (Southern Islands)" driver support (or 'legacy' support) for your old cards. Some Linux installs will still autodetect that. Some will need you to go into their graphics driver selection to be told to try the Radeon driver. Gently ask on whichever forums for your preferred Linux distro for what is possible with those GPU cards? Good luck! Keep searchin', Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

Microsoft to "Slow Down" Windows 10 Updates Microsoft is to switch to updating Windows 10 once a year. It's good news both for those hoping to use it for years to come and for those who'd prefer Microsoft to stop making changes for the sake of it. |

It's coming. Microsoft is preparing to start shoveling the latest version of Windows 10 down the throats of refuseniks still clinging to older incarnations. |

Microsoft be like: "We control the vertical, we control the horizontal.. etc." MS to Force Win10 Update, Regardless of Settings Microsoft will forcibly upgrade some Windows 10 computers, even where automatic updates are switched off. The upgrade is between Windows 10 editions rather than to Windows 11. |
