Looking forward for general release of the 0.98 special app. +1 20% of crunching speed gain over the already fast old build is impressive. In what of your host you are making the test? So we could follow more closely it's performance.

Looking forward for general release of the 0.98 special app. The words/ coming from you/ make a wold/ of difference and true/ That is the shine/ of all of us Setizens/ giving us power and endurance/ to improve the GPU code/ and CPU too! p,s. I now know where to fork the initialize and wait mutex in the code. My guess is that a simple FILE *f = fopen("2GPU_lock", "w+") will do with a fclose(f) in the icfft-loop (analyzeFuncs.cpp). If I remember correctly all open files are closed at the program end and no two fopens can succeed with write flag, the OS should guarantee that. I'll test that tonight, tomorrow or whenever I have time from heating the water in my "palju" (Google that). My V0.98bXX uses a lot less memory compared to the one I have sent to 2 users to test with. (TBar is supplied with the latest advancements in the code the best I can.) Keep on reading this channel. I have been testing v0.98b1 with RTX 2060 for a few days now. Blc22 runtimes shortened from 76 seconds to 54 and blc36 from 90 to 68 seconds compared to v0.97. RTX 2060 even outperforms GTX 1080ti using v0.97b2 (here is MajorTom's 1080ti https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=8298286&offset=0&show_names=0&state=4&appid= ) Powerful stuff. Only little downside is 10% increase in GPU power draw. Wattage has risen from 140W to 155W. ID: 1989797 · |

Also to note. I haven’t seen any issues with validations either on the new app. I’m only really been looking at the validated tasks. Looks like one invalid popped up, but it’s from before I switched to the new app and is the normal “shortyâ€. For everyone watching my system I switched over at about Apr 12 00:00 UTC. LOL That increase on the power usage is expected since i imagine the apps squeezes more power from the GPU. I could live with +10% power usage for the greater output obtained. Congratz petri and all who make this new nice piece of software works. Hope i could put my dirty hands on them soon but now i'm back to care about the cows, horses and the irrigation projects. LOL

I don't think nvidia-smi shows the average. I think it is just a 1 second snapshot at time of invocation. You still can use a power limit if concerned about power usage with the new beta. Since it has far less memory transfers going on, the beta spends more time crunching than pushing data in an out of the memory array, so higher overall average power usage. I don't think nvidia-smi shows the average. I think it is just a 1 second snapshot at time of invocation. You still can use a power limit if concerned about power usage with the new beta. Since it has far less memory transfers going on, the beta spends more time crunching than pushing data in an out of the memory array, so higher overall average power usage. You may have a word of wisdom there... The new version allows me to run memory a tad bit higher clocks since it does not stress the chips as much as any of the previous versions. To make that happen I had to add a substantial amount of address calculation to the code. Luckily enough the new cards do support simultaneous integer and floating point calculation, so I can calculate addresses at the same time I'm calculating scientific data (sum, min, max, ...) and do memory fetch operations. Pulse finding is kind of a folding a measurement tape in half, leaving any odd folds to that and continuing with an index of one more per any odd fold. A recursive algorithm is easy to write but compiles slow and uses a pile of stack variables and spills to memory from the register file. I overcame that by doing a deep loop (for in a for in a for ... 14 levels deep). The cuda compiler unrolls six of the innermost loops :) !! If I remember correctly all open files are closed at the program end and no two fopens can succeed with write flag, the OS should guarantee that. I threw Petri my run of his beta app against the standard CUDA10 0.97b1 app in the benchmark tool. Will be interesting to see which code path wins out. Your results certainly look interesting. What I find interesting is the greatest improvement is in the least capable card. I am testing against a 2080, 1080 and 1070. What I can see in the host stats for an overall bigger picture is the immediate gain of 500 GFLOPS in the host's gpu APR from using the beta. I am a little confused. I'm testing a new beta version of the special app this weekend for Petri. I found out it needs the latest 418 drivers to get the CUDA 10.1 platform the app needs.
