My Boinc installation hung up and now won't do anything. I did a reset project. No help there. Did a repair installation of Boinc. No dice there either. I get a 24 hour project backoff and it won't request work. What file got corrupted to cause this? Never had a problem like this before. How to fix?? Meow? Sorry to hear Mark. Can you post the startup of the Event Log to look for anything out of the ordinary. Did you dump a bunch of work? What host has the issue? You can edit client_state.xml and get rid of the 24 hour backoff. Change the entry <next_rpc_time>86400.000000</next_rpc_time> to <next_rpc_time>0.000000</next_rpc_time> and save the file. That will let the client connect the next time you start up BOINC. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours ![]() ![]() A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

I don't see anything out of the ordinary Mark. Maybe you can as Jord or Richard for help in the Questions and Answers forum. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours ![]() ![]() A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

I edited client_state.xml and set all instances of 'next' to 0.00000 When you edit you remember to totaly exit Boinc (the client too not just the mgr) before you edit the file? ![]() |

I edited client_state.xml and set all instances of 'next' to 0.00000 Yup. That backoff number must be getting stored someplace else. I detached from Seti and now I get a communication error when trying to reattach. No luck so far. Meowsigh. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

5/27/2019 3:07:34 PM Unrecognized tag in cc_config.xml: <max_tasks_reported> I'm a noob at using cc_config.xml but any error or warning makes me wary. I'd check in between <max_tasks_reported> and </max_tasks_reported> to see what BOINC thinks is unrecognized. Perhaps removing that block and testing will help. |

No problem there, the value is at 100, which it has been on this rig forever. Now I get the following messages when trying to reattach to Seti............ 5/27/2019 4:00:36 PM Fetching configuration file from http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/get_project_config.php 5/27/2019 4:00:37 PM Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site 5/27/2019 4:00:38 PM Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down. No problem there, the value is at 100, which it has been on this rig forever. What happens if you try to open http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/get_project_config.php from a browser on that host? |

No problem there, the value is at 100, which it has been on this rig forever. It gets and opens the file from your link. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

I think you might be running into the problem of the project changing authentication rules because of the GDPR requirement. I think they also changed handshake rules and that old client of yours might not understand the new communication messages. I would suggest (as I don't see it's been done) as long as you don't have work in the cache: Uninstall BOINC Delete the BOINC data folder C:\ProgramData\BOINC Delete the BOINC program folder C:\Program Files\BOINC Delete the following registry keys including subkeys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Space Sciences Laboratory, U.C. Berkeley HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Services > BOINC [if BOINC was installed as a service] Reinstall BOINC from a fresh download from here That should force a new machine ID for this computer so you should be able to download again. If it's existing once you've reported some work you can merge into the old name. Please let me know if this doesn't work, and I'll move the thread to Q&A > Windows (as it really is a "getting started" issue now if you can't get any work on a machine.) ![]() |

...I think that you may have trouble getting Mark to give up his old version of BOINC Mr. Kevvy, I know that I won't give up 6.10.60 on my Windows rigs. ;-) Cheers. |

Well, I did get it back. I uninstalled Boinc. Then I installed the latest Boinc. That allowed me to reattach to Seti. Then I installed my old 6.10.56 over the top of it and I'm back in action again. I did get a new host ID number, but the merge computer function worked. All seems well again. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated, Meow!
