Fellow SETIZENS, The last time my computers dropped off the program I got a couple of private messages wondering what had happened. There was a medical issue and some other happenings, but it was nice to see that people were paying attention and took the time to reach out, I greatly appreciate it! I thought I would then make a quick preemptive announcement this time around, that my computers are slowly coming off line, in fact the main rig (now neutered) is probably coming off line in the next week or so. That is the bad news. The good news is that BK is moving back to New Mexico! Once I'm established there I'll get a couple PCs back online! Unfortunately with the way my corp works, it could be a few months before everything is organized to get my rigs back online and crunching 24/7. In the mean time, I thought I would share a couple videos from my project over the last couple of months. These are short updates and upgrades with my main dedicated SETI rig, oldest to newest: Update 1 - Upgrading to EVGA Water Cooling: https://youtu.be/GwNivG4dB4Y Update 2 - Back after Medical Issue: https://youtu.be/-5tCdOJ5_G8 Update 3 - New Xeon CPU & 7 GPU Test & MOVING!: https://youtu.be/Tibwb5B-PbQ So I will end this post with this question... What are everyone's thoughts on me upgrading this main SETI@home rig so it's even more of a beast when I get her back online in NM, or just be happy with what I have now? My thinking is this: I have 6 EVGA 1070 SC GPUs, and 4 NVIDIA TITAN Xp GPUs with EVGA hybrid water cooling kits. I "should" be able to sell all of that and easily buy four 2080 Ti GPUs with the "profits"... I'm just not sure if I want to go through the trouble of trying to sell used PC components. Thoughts? Anyone have experience selling computer parts over the web and have advice? -Thanks, BK. |

This completely depends on what you want to do and/or how much time you want to spend on it? The advantage of not upgrading is all you have to do is setup a known working system. Boot and start crunching. I am guessing that "new" gpu prices will decline as time goes on. If so, waiting, could be a good choice. In any case. I am glad you are feeling better. Sounds like you need to do that corporate snowbird routine and "fly south" :) Tom ps. I don't think you are running Tbar's "all in one." If you aren't, you can get a big gpu boost by doing so (gtx 750Ti or higher). pss. You mention 1070's but all I see are 1030's? A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |
