I tried reconnecting the computer I used to crunch in the late 90's. Guess this project doesn't play well with the boinc 6.12.35 client (Mac OS X 10.4.11 32 bit powerpc). The thing still runs Halo CE well. |

The thing still runs Halo CE well.Yes it would be better to update the client as that old version doesn't carry the required certificates now to connect with the project servers. Cheers. |

There is no way to update the client. If I remember correctly it took a few days to process 1 task at the time. Boinc CPU benchmarks came up with 969 integer and 472 floating point operations/sec. Looks like the system is purely for nostalgia now. For a time I used a 802.11g card to turn it into a 56K hotspot for the devices I had... no unlimited data plans for early "smart" phones yet. |

Who gets to crunch that last work unit? My hope is that there wont be a last work unit to be crounched. I think most of us getting it wrong, when I browsing trough the forums I see people saying their farewells and goodbyes, meanwhile seti@home isnt going away. Its just hibernating, We need this probably to finally clear the validation backlog, and probably upgrade the server hardware to avoid the same problems in the future. I'm expecting astronomy and technology in general to grow in the following years, and I'm sure that more data will be generated for us to crunch trough. Also this is maybe related to the problems with the green bank telescope, I've heard that the goverment planning to cut their funding. |
