For the gui_rpc_auth.cfg problem read this thread. https://boinc.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=14023 The fix applies to Ubuntu 20.04 too, not just to 20.10. The crux of the fix is contained in the Optional_setup_hints I gave you some hints about the MIT-magic-cookie issue previously and the fix with xhost. But maybe reading this thread might give you a better understanding. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/37157097/how-does-x11-authorization-works-mit-magic-cookie Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Maybe spoke to soon. Got boinc manager working with a copy reset of /etc/boinc-client/gui_rpc_auth.cfg but now no projects are running tasks. |

What projects are you trying to run? Projects can run out of work occasionally. You should not expect any work here at Seti. The Seti project has been hibernated for most of the year and not expected to return any time soon. Check your settings at each project for the types of work you want to crunch and look at the servers stats pages to see if that kind of work is available. My win10 laptop is running 3 projects, but maybe they like the GPU better? |

Any guess to when boinc will release a Ubuntu 20 compatible install that needs no tweaking, no skilled Linux admin support? I miss hearing the fans slow when I click the mouse! |

Any guess to when boinc will release a Ubuntu 20 compatible install that needs no tweaking, no skilled Linux admin support? I miss hearing the fans slow when I click the mouse! See the questions in my earlier post. Several of us use Ubuntu 20.04 with BOINC with no problems. If you give me more info about how you’re currently trying to install and use BOINC I can probably help you find a solution. Personally my opinion is to just use a standalone version of BOINC that runs as a self contained executable, and not as a service like an install from the package manager would. I saw some boinc sw updates come in today, so I restarted but still no boinc start with boot or by starting the manager. |

Been a while since I have updated boinc on my Linux machines (Ubuntu 20.04.2). Where is the best place to download the latest from? |

Been a while since I have updated boinc on my Linux machines (Ubuntu 20.04.2). Where is the best place to download the latest from? do you want the repository install? or the standalone "all-in-one" version? Seti@Home classic workunits: 29,492 CPU time: 134,419 hours |

Been a while since I have updated boinc on my Linux machines (Ubuntu 20.04.2). Where is the best place to download the latest from? TBar's AIO is in the same location as always. http://www.arkayn.us/lunatics/BOINC.7z This is the BOINC 7.16.5 version. From the notes: 4) The Default 7.16.5 version Will work with Ubuntu 18.04, but will need Dependencies to work with Ubuntu 20.04.
