Seems that the official launch was on May 17, 1999, even if the Windows and Mac clients were made available on May 13, at least according to the oldest archived tech news, so SETI@home is officially 21 today. Sad anniversary, but there are still some results to return, and some are still being returned according to the server status, so there's a shred of activity left in it to "catch" the moment.

Does anyone know how many WUs still need results? See that it was 795 six days ago. are there any still left?

I suspect that Eric may have run the last few hundred on local machines in the lab if they wanted to get the last few Results into the database.
I looked at the top 20 hosts a few days ago, None of them still have any Pendings or Inconclusives left.

There are still tasks In Progress going up to the last week of July, but some of the Workunits have up to 6 Tasks, and every one that I have looked at is already Validated

Given that the lab is closed, and all the desktop computers off, it is highly unlikely that Eric has been able to run through the outstanding tasks. He may have done a few from home, but nowhere near enough to clear the pool. The most probable explanation is people actually running the tasks or aborting them, thus allowing work units for which the canonical result has been declared to clear from sight. Remember that once the canonical result has been declared our part in the science for that work unit is done, extra completed tasks for that work unit are ignored, but as far as I can see credit is awarded where applicable.

I would have thought that one or more of the servers could easily crunch 800 tasks in a few hours.
You could be right, it depends how soon they want to start working on the next stage of Nebula with the "complete set".

The notice at the top of the front page seems to indicate that all the canonical results are done. That message appeared about a week ago.
I also noticed that it promotes Science United, so I suspect that DA posted that message :)

They could, but I doubt that Eric would do that as he respects the volunteer community too much.
You overlook that there were a number people who were still crunching as fast as they could, and the number of GPUs they had would comfortably out perform the servers in terms of number of tasks per day.
You're not the only one who suspects DA posted that message.
Looking at a random sample of work units the vast majority (if not all) have their canonical result, so it really is just a matter of time.

I've just looked through around 2500 Tasks assigned to one of the top computers by RAC
There are a lot that have deadlines in the next 5-6 days, and another big block around 14-15 June
However, I was looking for any tasks with deadlines beyond 23 July, I found 3 or 4 for 25 July, but nothing beyond that.
So the last Workunits will Probably be finished before the end of July, but there might be a very small group in August

While checking the deadline look at the record for the work unit - if it shows the status as "Completed and validated" then any further work is just a waste of time, even if there a number of results that haven't been returned.
Currently active owners of hosts with a lot of tasks progress should either allow those tasks to run (if suspended), or detach and re-attach the host to clear any ghost tasks. Either of these actions will substantially reduce the number of outstanding tasks in the field.

8 of the top 20 by RAC still have a significant number of tasks In Progress. From a few hundred, up to over 20k.
I did look for Any WU's that still need Validation, I didn't find any.
The host with over 20k tasks should have a lot less by the 23rd of May, including about 6 of my last 15 WU's

A random check of them shows that the vast majority of those tasks are for work units that already have their canonical result declared. Thus those users are just wasting their time along with needlessly gumming up the servers with jobs that could be cleared if they returned those mountain of work one way or the other (either completed or abandoned).

And as of yesterday I saw the maintenance message back when BOINC tries to connect instead of that "feeder not running" one, so I guess I hit my 21 years at a time when the project had returned to... proper hibernation at least, and not when it was pretty much fully dead, as it seemed there for a while.

Also, I noticed S@h had resent some WUs that apparently hadnt reached a final quorum on May 3rd (and possibly on other later dates) so this kinda late event is also likely to help you qualify for the 21 Year Club, Cavalry ^^
