Queensland Police First Nations adviser calls for union boss Ian Leavers to resign over 'racialised, divisive comments'.

The First Nations Advisory Group to Queensland Police has called for police union boss Ian Leavers to resign over his "inaccurate, inflammatory and fear-mongering" comments about a Path to Treaty.

The group said Mr Leavers' comments, published in a News Corp opinion piece on Wednesday, reinforced negative racial stereotypes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Co-chair Christine Thomas, a Wakka Wakka woman and Sunshine Coast resident, said she was "absolutely disgusted" that Mr Leavers sought to represent the Queensland Police Union's 17,000 members on the issue without consultation.

"I've been contacted by police over the last couple of days who have said very clearly to me that he does not represent them on this issue," she said.

Ms Thomas said the role of the union president was to advocate for a workplace "free from racism, sexism, and misogyny".

"I'm really concerned that through these comments he's forgotten his membership," she said.

"We're asking him to resign. It's plain and simple."

In his opinion piece, Mr Leavers claimed a Path to Treaty would "favour" First Nations people in the justice system and give Indigenous criminals a "free pass".

The advisory group said Mr Leavers had used his position and platform to "advance personal ideas that renowned criminologists and researchers have confirmed are not based in evidence".

The group said his comments displayed "outwardly racist ideology".......

Across the gutter the people of New Zealand have found out that their new right wing government wants "mighty white" policies to rule yet again and they're not happy. :-(

Relations between Maori and NZ government deteriorate as details of controversial bill leak.

New Zealand once enjoyed a favourable reputation on race relations, but fewer than 100 days into the new government, Maori leaders have slammed its agenda as a "white supremacist approach".

That strong language is coming from a co-leader of The Maori Party, but Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is facing criticism from several sources as well as mounting legal challenges.

In the space of a week, a legal document leaked from the Ministry of Justice has shed some light on a controversial bill being drafted that aims to rewrite the principles of New Zealand's founding document — the Treaty of Waitangi.

And the Maori King, Te Arikinui Tuheitia Paki, held the first national hui — or meeting of Maori — in a decade to discuss the government's agenda.

While 3,000 people were expected to attend the hui, more than 10,000 showed up.

Then, on Wednesday, a senior Maori leader issued a warning: "If there is any measure of meddling with Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Maori will not sit idly by."

This is all against a backdrop of protests and legal challenges as Maori organisations try to halt some of the government's policy changes that they say will disproportionately impact New Zealand's first people......
